Struggling Dad Blocked A Man From Following A Woman, Never Guessing She Was A Billionaire In Love

An Unexpected Encounter

Jackson Ford didn’t expect to throw a punch outside a grocery store on a Tuesday afternoon. But when a man in a black coat started following the woman in front of him, instincts kicked in.

“Back off,” Jackson growled, stepping between the guy and the woman who had just exited the store.

She had her arms full with a paper bag and didn’t even notice the situation until the man stumbled back. He muttered something before jogging off.

The woman blinked. “Wait, what just happened?”

Jackson turned to her, catching his breath. “That guy was following you. He looked shady.”

She stared at him for a second, dumbfounded, then slowly smiled. “And you blocked him?”

Jackson shrugged like his heart wasn’t still pounding. “Yeah. You okay?”

The woman nodded, adjusting the bag in her arms. Her hair blew slightly in the breeze.

Jackson noticed her coat was a little too thin for the chilly air. “I’m fine, thanks to you.”

“That’s good,” he said. He glanced at his son, Liam, who was holding a small carton of milk and waiting by their old beat-up pickup truck.

“I got to go. My son’s waiting.”

“Wait,” she said, stepping forward. “Let me buy you guys coffee or something as a thank you.”

Jackson hesitated. He didn’t have time for this between picking Liam up from school and trying to get to his second job tonight.

Every minute counted. But when he looked at the woman again, he saw how genuine her expression was and how warm her eyes looked.

He surprised himself by saying, “We’ve got 20 minutes.”

She grinned, and it lit up her whole face. “Perfect.”

They ended up at a small cafe across the street. Liam sat between them sipping hot chocolate with marshmallows while Jackson drank plain black coffee.

The woman introduced herself as Fallen Vega. “That’s a cool name,” Liam said through a marshmallow mustache.

Fallen laughed. “Thanks, buddy. I like your name too.”

Jackson watched the way she talked to Liam like she actually respected him, not just humored him.

Most people didn’t even look twice at his kid. They acted like single dads were some kind of tragic anomaly.

Fallen didn’t flinch. “So, what do you do?” Jackson asked, watching her stir a peppermint tea.

“I work in finance,” she replied easily. “It’s complicated.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Complicated?”

Fallen smiled but didn’t elaborate. “And you?”

Jackson exhaled slowly. “Construction part-time, and nights I drive for a delivery service.”

“It’s not glamorous, but it keeps us afloat.”

Fallen didn’t look uncomfortable. She didn’t pity him either.

“That’s a lot on your plate.”

He shrugged. “Yeah, well, Liam’s worth it.”

Liam beamed up at him, and Jackson tousled his hair. Fallen looked between the two of them, her smile softening.

“You’re a good dad.”

Jackson glanced away, suddenly feeling exposed. “I try.”

When they finished, Fallen insisted on paying. Jackson didn’t argue, mostly because he couldn’t afford to.

As they walked out, she turned to him again. “Thank you for stepping in earlier.”

“You don’t have to keep thanking me,” he said, then paused. “But you’re welcome.”

She hesitated for a beat. “Would it be weird if I asked for your number?”

Jackson blinked. “You want to call the guy who almost decked someone in a parking lot?”

Fallen grinned. “I think that’s exactly why I want to.”

He chuckled and handed her his number, still not sure what was happening. She waved goodbye and disappeared around the corner.
