CEO Gets Injured Hiking Alone. The Woman Who Aids Him Doesn’t Realize He’ll Soon Fall for Her

A Rescue in the Wilderness
Felix Emerson hit the ground hard, pain shooting through his leg as he clutched his ankle. The sharp snap he’d heard moments before told him everything he needed to know: he was in trouble. The hiking trail had been peaceful, a rare escape from chaos.
He had come alone, hoping to clear his head and remind himself that there was more to life than board meetings and shareholder demands. But now, lying on the dirt path with no one around, reality hit him like a freight train.
His phone had no signal, his leg was probably broken, and the sun was slowly setting behind the towering trees. It was casting long shadows through the dense forest. “Perfect,” Felix muttered through gritted teeth.
He tried to move, but pain flared up his leg, forcing him to stay put. He was miles away from the nearest town and no one knew he was out here. His usual team, assistant, and security weren’t here to bail him out.
Just as he was beginning to wonder if this was how he was going to spend the night alone and injured, a voice called out from the trail ahead.
“Are you okay?”
He turned his head sharply, wincing at the movement. A woman stood a few feet away, her brows furrowed in concern. She had a backpack slung over one shoulder, her brown hair pulled into a messy ponytail. Her hiking boots looked well worn.
“I’ve been better,” Felix admitted, his voice strained.
She stepped closer, crouching beside him.
“What happened?”
“Slipped on the rocks. I think my ankle’s broken.”
She winced.
“Yeah, that looks bad.”
Without hesitation, she reached for her backpack and pulled out a first aid kit.
“I can at least stabilize it until we get you out of here.”
Felix arched a brow.
“We?”
She gave a small smile.
“You don’t think I’m leaving you here, do you?”
He wasn’t used to people helping him without expecting something in return. Yet this woman, this complete stranger, was already tending to his injury like it was second nature.
“Victoria Cain,” she said as she wrapped his ankle carefully. “And you are?”
