Young Millionaire Hired a Nanny for His Son. He Never Thought He’d Fall for Her Instead.

A Glimmer of Stability

Brielle stood in the grand foyer of the Kensington estate, clutching the strap of her worn leather bag as she took in the sheer opulence around her. Marble floors gleamed under a crystal chandelier, and an ornate staircase spiraled up to the second floor.

She had never stepped foot in a place like this before, let alone imagined working in one.

“Miss Bennett,” a deep, authoritative voice pulled her attention to the doorway.

A man stood there, leaning casually against the frame. If she hadn’t known better, she would have mistaken him for a model from some high-end fashion magazine.

He had dark, slightly tousled hair, piercing green eyes, and an expensive navy suit that fit him like it had been custom-made, because it probably had been. Brielle straightened.

“Yes, that’s me.”

“Vance Kensington,” he said, pushing off the frame and offering a handshake.

His grip was firm and confident.

“I appreciate you coming on short notice. My son, Theo, needs a nanny immediately.”

The reminder of why she was here helped ground her. She wasn’t here to admire the luxury or let herself be intimidated by the man who owned it all. She was here for the job.

“I understand,” she said, keeping her tone professional. “I have experience working with children and I can start right away.”

Vance studied her, his gaze sharp and assessing. He wasn’t the type of man to make decisions lightly; that much was obvious. Finally, he nodded.

“Good. Theo’s been struggling since his mother left. He needs stability, someone who won’t just quit after a few weeks.”

Something in his voice, something almost vulnerable, made her chest tighten.

She had read about Vance Kensington in magazines and knew he was a young millionaire who had built his own empire in tech.

None of those glossy articles mentioned the fact that he was a single father trying to piece things together for his son.

“I don’t quit,” Brielle said firmly.

Vance held her gaze for a moment longer before turning toward the staircase.

“Theo’s in his room. Let’s go meet him.”

As Brielle followed him up the stairs, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this job was going to change her life in ways she hadn’t expected.

Theo Kensington was five years old with dark curls and big, wary eyes. He sat on the floor of his massive bedroom, clutching a stuffed dinosaur as he stared at her.

“Hey, Theo,” Brielle said gently, kneeling so she was at his level. “I’m Brielle. Your dad hired me to take care of you.”

The boy didn’t answer right away. He just hugged his dinosaur tighter.

Vance sighed, raking a hand through his hair.

“He’s been like this with every nanny. He barely speaks to them, and most don’t last a month.”

Brielle ignored him for a moment, focusing on Theo instead. She reached into her bag and pulled out a small notebook and a pack of crayons.

“You know,” she said, “I don’t really like talking much either when I first meet new people. But sometimes, I like to draw instead.”

She opened the notebook to a blank page and handed him a crayon.

“Want to show me your favorite color?”

Theo hesitated, then slowly reached out and took the blue crayon from her hand. He glanced up at her as if testing to see if she was serious. Brielle smiled.

“Good choice. Blue’s a great color.”

Vance watched the interaction in silence. Brielle could feel his gaze on her, analyzing and assessing.

“Impressive,” he murmured. “You got further than most people have with him.”

Brielle turned to him.

“Kids don’t just open up because you tell them to. They have to feel safe first.”

Something flickered in Vance’s expression, something she couldn’t quite place.

“Then I hope you can make him feel safe, Brielle,” he said, his voice quieter this time. “Because he needs it.”

Brielle looked back at Theo, who was now quietly drawing a dinosaur on the page.

“I will,” she promised.

What she didn’t realize was that Theo wasn’t the only Kensington who would start to let her in.
