One Minute With His Baby… And The Entire Court Froze
THE VERDICT EVERYONE THOUGHT WAS FINAL
By the time the gavel came down in a packed courtroom in Spokane County, everyone believed the story was already over. Reporters had their headlines ready.
Lawyers kept their faces neutral. Spectators leaned forward, waiting for the final moment.
Judge Evelyn Carter struck the gavel. “The court finds the defendant guilty. Sentence: life in custody.”
No one gasped. No one protested. Because to them—this was expected.
At the defense table stood Marcus Hale, dressed in an orange uniform, wrists restrained, shoulders heavy with defeat.
He didn’t argue. He didn’t fight.
But just as the bailiff stepped forward to take him away—Marcus lifted his head.
“Your Honor… I’m not asking you to change the verdict,” he said, voice rough. “I just have one request.”
The courtroom shifted. “State it,” the judge replied.
“My son was born eight days ago… I haven’t even held him once.”
A pause. “If he’s here… can I hold him? Just one minute.”
