My Fiancé Hit Me and Kicked My Dog — So I Cancelled the Wedding and Married the Vet Instead

Part 1
I stood frozen in the hallway as the sound of a shattering sculpture echoed through the house.
Tyler stood over the broken ceramic pieces, his knuckles white as he stared down at the jagged shards.
He offered no apology for destroying the only keepsake I had from my late grandmother.
Instead, his cold eyes darted toward Buster, my golden retriever puppy, who had just trotted into the living room to investigate the sudden noise.
Before I could even process what was happening, Tyler’s heavy boot swung forward and connected hard with Buster’s delicate ribs.
A sharp, terrified yelp pierced the quiet air of our home.
My breath caught in my throat as I watched my innocent dog scramble frantically under the sofa to hide.
Dropping to the hardwood floor, I shielded his trembling body with my own arms.
Tyler simply sneered down at me and crossed his arms over his broad chest.
He stated that if I cared so much about a stupid mutt, I could cancel our upcoming wedding and sleep outside in the rain.
I did not scream, throw things, or bother arguing back with him.
Without another word, I scooped up my whimpering dog, grabbed my car keys from the table, and walked out the front door without looking back.
I drove straight to the emergency animal clinic while frantically blinking away my tears.
The only person I truly trusted right now was Greg, a brilliant veterinarian who practically grew up in my parents’ house like an older brother.
I burst through the glass clinic doors with Buster clutched tightly in my arms and begged the front desk receptionist for immediate help.
Greg rushed out from the back examination room and gently took the injured puppy from my shaking hands.
I sat in the sterile waiting room for over an hour, replaying the last six years of my life.
I kept wondering how I had ignored Tyler’s toxic, controlling behavior for so incredibly long just to keep the peace.
When Greg finally emerged into the lobby, he wiped his hands on a clean towel and offered me a soft, reassuring smile.
He confirmed that Buster was going to be perfectly fine after a little rest and some strong pain medication.
I collapsed into a hard plastic chair and buried my face in my hands, letting the exhaustion wash over me.
Between jagged sobs, I confessed to Greg that I had just called off my wedding to Tyler.
Greg quietly pulled up a chair beside me and handed me a tissue from his pocket.
He did not offer any empty platitudes or tell me that everything would magically work out in the end.
Instead, he looked me dead in the eyes and asked a question that made my heart stop entirely.
He asked me if I wanted to get married to him instead.
I stared at him in pure, unfiltered disbelief.
Greg calmly explained that Tyler would never leave me alone unless he knew I was permanently out of his reach.
He promised that if I married him at City Hall the very next morning, he would protect me and Buster forever.
I looked down at my sleeping dog and then back up at the man who had always been my quiet, steadfast protector.
The next morning, I stood in front of a busy judge in a simple floral dress and said my vows to Greg.
He slipped a beautiful silver ring onto my finger and pressed a gentle, lingering kiss to my forehead.
Moving into Greg’s cozy apartment felt like stepping into a sanctuary of peace after years of constantly walking on eggshells.
He cooked dinner for me every single night and never once raised his voice or made me feel small.
With his unwavering support and quiet encouragement, I finally gathered the courage to open the small coffee shop I had been dreaming about for years.
Everything felt absolutely perfect until the little brass bell above the coffee shop door chimed on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
My stomach plummeted straight to the floor when Tyler strutted in with his new girlfriend, Megan, clinging tightly to his arm.
He slammed his hands down on the front counter and demanded that I stop playing this pathetic, childish game.
He was completely convinced that my sudden marriage to Greg was just a desperate stunt to make him jealous.
I kept my voice perfectly level and calmly told him to leave my store immediately.
Tyler reached across the counter and grabbed my wrist so hard that his fingers dug painfully into my skin.
Suddenly, a large, warm hand clamped down fiercely over Tyler’s shoulder.
Greg yanked Tyler backward with incredible force and shoved him firmly toward the exit.
Tyler stumbled over a display stand and glared at my husband with absolute venom in his dark eyes.
As he wiped a smudge of dirt off his expensive designer jacket, Tyler promised that he was going to destroy everything Greg cared about.
The next morning, I woke up to my phone buzzing with hundreds of notifications, realizing that Tyler had just unleashed a nightmare that could ruin my new husband’s life.
