My Husband Glared at Another Woman During Our Wedding — I Checked His Phone the Next Day

Part 1

My husband glared at another woman throughout our entire wedding reception.

I should have been the happiest bride in the world.

Dan and I had been together for over two years.

I thought I knew everything about the man I was marrying.

We had navigated the stresses of wedding planning with only minor arguments.

Our relationship felt incredibly stable.

But there was a lingering shadow named Heather.

Heather was an old high school friend of his.

She had harbored a massive, unrequited crush on him for years before we met.

Dan had admitted early on that he leaned into her attention because it boosted his fragile ego.

He claimed he felt guilty about leading her on.

I believed him.

Heather had always been perfectly polite to me.

She never crossed any boundaries.

She eventually moved to the city and started building a successful life for herself.

When it came time to send out wedding invitations, I insisted we invite her.

I even told her to bring her new boyfriend.

Dan had been weirdly resistant to the idea of her bringing a plus-one.

He blamed it on our tight guest list and budget constraints.

I let the issue drop.

The day of the wedding arrived with a blur of hairspray and nervous energy.

The ceremony was beautiful.

Dan cried when I walked down the aisle.

I felt completely secure in our love.

Then the reception started.

Heather walked into the banquet hall looking absolutely stunning.

She had lost some weight and chopped her hair into a chic new style.

On her arm was her boyfriend.

He was incredibly handsome and wore a tailored suit that screamed success.

I was genuinely happy for her.

Dan was not.

I noticed his jaw clench the moment they walked through the double doors.

He spent the next three hours shooting daggers at their table.

When Heather came over to congratulate us and hand over a generous gift envelope, Dan was ice cold.

He gave one-word answers.

He refused to shake her boyfriend’s hand properly.

I tried to smooth over the awkwardness with extra warmth.

Later in the evening, Dan’s mother pulled us aside.

She mentioned how wonderful Heather looked and how nice her new boyfriend seemed.

Dan scoffed loudly.

He snapped that at least Heather wouldn’t be desperate and hung up on him for the rest of her life.

The bitterness in his voice was unmistakable.

I felt a cold pit form in my stomach.

I didn’t want to cause a scene in my wedding dress, so I kept my mouth shut.

The rest of the night was ruined for me.

I pasted on a smile for the photos.

I danced the dances.

But my mind was racing.

Why was he so angry that a woman he allegedly never wanted had moved on?

The next week was supposed to be our honeymoon phase.

Instead, a heavy silence hung in our apartment.

Dan acted like nothing was wrong.

I couldn’t shake the awful taste in my mouth.

Eight days after we said our vows, the suspicion finally boiled over.

Dan came home from work and immediately laid down for his usual afternoon nap.

He left his phone charging on his desk.

I sat on the edge of the couch and stared at it for a long time.

I had never invaded his privacy before.

I knew his passcode because he used his birth year for everything.

I picked up the phone.

My hands were shaking.

I checked his text messages first.

There was nothing out of the ordinary.

Then I opened Instagram.

He had installed a special app lock for it.

The idiot used the exact same four-digit passcode.

The lock screen dissolved.

I went straight to his direct messages.

Heather’s name was at the very top.

I clicked the thread.

The messages were dated the morning after our wedding.

He had texted her while I was sleeping in the hotel bed next to him.

He told her how beautiful she looked.

He said he had missed her.

He complained that her boyfriend had ruined his chance to catch up with her properly.

He begged her to meet up with him in secret.

Heather never replied.

Later that same day, he had sent a string of vicious, deeply personal insults because she ignored him.

I felt completely numb.

I scrolled further down his inbox.

I found dozens of conversations with aspiring local models.

He was aggressively flirting.

Two of the threads evolved into explicit sexting.

He was sending nudes.

The photos weren’t even of his own body.

He had cropped some fitness model’s photos and passed them off as his own.

I took screenshots of everything.

I sent them directly to my own phone.

Then I texted his mother and his brother from his phone.

I told them to come pick him up immediately.

I walked into the bedroom.

He was snoring softly.

I woke him up and told him to pack a bag.

He started crying and begging.

He swore he would never actually cheat.

I tossed a garbage bag at his chest.

I blocked him on everything and packed away my wedding dress, but the real explosion happened when I gave him one final ultimatum.
