My Fiancé Tried To Sell My Sons — So I Rose From My Paralysis

Part 1
I lay perfectly still on the white silk sheets of my own bed, pretending I couldn’t move a single muscle.
My breathing remained shallow and steady.
The bandages wrapped tightly across my chest hid the truth.
Just a week ago, my helicopter had gone down off the coast.
Everyone thought I was left completely paralyzed from the neck down.
I arranged the false medical reports because I needed to know the truth.
My empire was vast and my enemies were numerous.
I needed to see what the people closest to me would do when I was entirely powerless.
It only took seven days for the masks to slip.
“I can’t live like this for another single day.”
Brenda’s voice cut through the heavy silence of the master bedroom.
She stood at the foot of the bed in her designer dress.
Her face twisted into a sneer of pure disgust.
She yanked the five-carat diamond ring off her finger.
Cold metal struck my bandaged chest with a sharp thud.
I didn’t flinch.
I kept my eyes locked forward, hollow and unblinking.
Only a week earlier, this same woman had knelt by my hospital bed in tears.
She had sworn she would stay by my side forever.
We had planned a massive wedding for the coming spring.
Now she paced the marble floor like a vulture waiting for its meal.
“Look at you.”
She leaned over me.
Her expensive perfume filled my lungs.
“The great energy tycoon reduced to an expensive piece of furniture.”
She dropped a thick leather folder right onto my chest.
It held documents transferring all my assets, offshore accounts, and medical proxy to her name.
I let my eyelids droop heavily.
I pushed a raspy whisper past my lips.
“Give me time.”
Her laugh echoed off the high ceiling.
“I’m not spending my best years wiping your drool.”
She turned to the mirror to adjust her hair.
She informed me that if I didn’t sign the papers by morning, she would cut off all my medical care.
I felt the blood pound in my temples.
I had faced ruthless corporate rivals before.
I had destroyed competitors who tried to bankrupt me.
None of them possessed the naked cruelty of the woman I had planned to marry.
A soft knock interrupted her tirade.
The heavy wooden door pushed open.
Megan stood there in her maid’s uniform.
My youngest son Dan clung to her waist.
Tyler hid behind her leg.
“They want to see their father.”
Megan kept her voice low.
My heart slammed against my ribs.
Tyler and Dan were my whole world.
They shared my dark hair and my deep eyes.
Their mother passed away years ago, leaving them entirely in my care.
“Dad?”
Tyler reached a small hand toward the bed.
I fought every instinct in my body to reach back and hold him.
Megan gently lowered Dan to the rug.
“Your father is tired.”
“But he can still hear you.”
She watched me with genuine sorrow in her eyes.
There was no calculation in her gaze.
Brenda burst from the corner of the room.
“Who allowed you to bring these filthy children in here?”
Her voice was a whip.
Megan immediately shielded my boys with her body.
She calmly stated they would only stay a minute.
Brenda sneered and ordered them out.
Megan scooped the boys up without another word.
Before leaving, she cast one brief glance at me.
It was a silent promise that she would not abandon my kids.
Brenda grabbed a glass of water from the nightstand.
She tilted it right over my chest.
Ice-cold water soaked through my bandages and chilled my skin.
I forced my muscles to remain completely limp.
“My hand slipped.”
She set the empty glass down.
She promised the notary would arrive at nine in the morning.
The door slammed shut behind her.
I lay in the dark room, letting the water seep into my skin.
Night fell over the mansion.
Heavy footsteps echoed down the hall.
Craig walked in holding a bottle of wine.
He was my business partner.
I had mentored him and built his entire career from nothing.
I trusted him with my life.
He didn’t come to visit me.
He came to kiss my fiancé right in front of my face.
Brenda leaned into his chest with a victorious smile.
The notary followed them inside.
They laid the papers out on the table beside me.
They wanted my empire.
I watched them celebrate my absolute downfall.
But then Craig lowered his voice.
“We already have someone handling the kids.”
My breath caught in my throat.
“There’s a contact at the border.”
He smiled down at me.
“Healthy children are very profitable.”
I felt a murderous rage ignite inside my chest.
They weren’t just stealing my money.
They were planning to traffic my innocent sons.
My hands curled into fists beneath the blanket.
I wanted to rise up and break his jaw.
I wanted to destroy them right then and there.
But I needed to ensure the police would catch them with undeniable proof.
I forced myself to remain completely still as they laughed about my demise.
They left me alone in the dark to suffer in silence.
A thunderstorm cracked outside the window.
Rain battered the glass panes.
Brenda returned to my room an hour later holding a syringe.
“Craig arranged a discreet transport for tonight.”
She tapped the needle.
She claimed it was just a strong sedative.
I knew exactly what she intended to do.
She was going to end my life before I could ever fight back.
The needle hovered just inches from my skin as she smiled down at me.
That was when the bedroom door violently burst open.
