The Illusion of Power

A woman demands a divorce from her husband, expecting a fight or hesitation. Instead, he simply walks away, leaving her to instantly regret her decision.

Hello, Reddit Eyes Plus here. Have you ever meet someone who thinks they have all the power in a relationship?

Like they think they’re the prize, the one calling all the shots? They don’t realize until it’s too late that they were just as replaceable as anyone else.

Yeah, that was my friend’s ex-wife, Laura. Now, Laura was one of those people who thought she had her husband, Mike, wrapped around her little finger.

They’d been married for six years and, to be fair, at first they were solid. They had that cute couple thing going on.

You know, the kind that makes you believe in love. But somewhere along the way, Laura started getting bored.

I guess she got into this habit of starting fights. It wasn’t the knockdown, drag-out kind, but more like the slow needling kind.

There were complaints over small things like how Mike loaded the dishwasher or how he folded towels. He didn’t text her back fast enough.

At first it was little stuff, but over time it turned into bigger fights. And then came the threats.

“I want a divorce.”

Now let me tell you, Laura didn’t actually want a divorce. She just liked the power of saying it.

She loved watching Mike scramble to fix things, to apologize, and to try harder. She’d throw it out like a challenge, expecting him to beg.

And every single time he did, until the last time.
