Over the following days, as I returned the money and gifts, the guests expressed their sympathy and admiration for my decision. They commended my father and me for our integrity and courage in facing such a situation.
The aftermath of the reception rippled through Steven’s social and professional life. His co-workers who had witnessed the event spread the word about the ordeal.
