At my wedding, my MIL demanded my $10,000 salary, said: “If you don’t pay the money, get out! but!

The Wedding Day Ultimatum

As I grappled with these thoughts, the wedding day arrived. It was a profoundly emotional moment to walk down the aisle with my father, who had raised me by himself. As Peter and I exchanged vows and rings to the sound of applause, I felt an overwhelming joy.

I realized the significance of the commitment we were making. At the reception, the lively atmosphere and the congratulations from friends and colleagues made it a truly memorable day.

Despite the initial misgivings about Peter’s parents, the joy of the day made me glad we had gone through with our plans. After the ceremony, we looked forward to officially registering our marriage. The day was filled with cherished moments.

But as we prepared to greet our guests, I noticed Peter’s parents were visibly intoxicated. Their behavior was slightly erratic, which made me uneasy. During the reception, an uncomfortable moment unfolded when Peter’s mother a bit too forcefully pulled me aside.

In a commanding tone, she said, “Patricia, listen to me.” “After this wedding, you are going to dedicate yourself entirely to us.” “Get ready because we will test you rigorously,” she continued.

Some guests chuckled, thinking it was a joke. Shortly after, Peter’s father took the microphone, glanced at me and remarked, “Patricia, aren’t you ashamed to wear a dress like that? It doesn’t suit you at all”.

His tone was sharp, and Peter’s mother added, “Dear, you should tell her the truth”. The mood among the guests shifted. Whispers grew louder, some in disbelief, others in discomfort.

I turned to Peter hoping for his support, expecting him to address his parents’ rude remarks. However, to my dismay, he remained silent. Later, saying he couldn’t do anything about it and didn’t believe his parents were in the wrong.

This response was disheartening. It made me realize the challenges we might face as a couple, especially regarding his parents’ influence and our differing perspectives on handling family conflicts.

As we moved through the day, I knew this issue would need more discussion and understanding if we were to build a strong unified future together. In the wedding hall’s bustling atmosphere, a harsh reality struck me.

Peter would not shield me from his parents’ harshness in the future. The situation escalated quickly when my in-laws, under the influence and unabashed, continued to berate me with demands.

“Well, you’re married now, but to be part of this family you need to prove you have enough money,” they announced. Adding, “After you register your marriage, you should give us a few thousand a month in your entire bonus”.

Their words left me stunned. Such audacious demands at our wedding reception were the last thing I expected. As I stood there, my face pale, my father stepped in.

His voice firm yet respectful as he took the microphone from them. “Enough of this. Don’t you realize how inappropriate this is?” he challenged Peter’s parents. They shot back defiantly, “Why are you interrupting us while we’re talking?” they sneered.

“I knew this woman’s father was no good. Single parents are never any good”. Angered by their cruel words toward my father, I felt my temper rising. But my father remained composed and responded, “You’re even worse than I thought.”

“Refusing to meet me just because I’m a single father is shameful.” “I never expected such bigotry from people associated with a respected figure.”

“I assume President Donald’s employees would be more decent,” my father continued. The mention of President Donald seemed to startle my father-in-law. “How do you know President Donald?” he asked.

The resulting drama. My father-in-law looked utterly defeated, and the guests couldn’t help but react. Some with laughter, others capturing the moment on their phones.

My dad, standing by his principles, replied firmly. “Apologies can’t undo what’s been said”. He then approached me, asking quietly if I wanted to leave with him. I nodded, taking the microphone from Peter’s hand.

“Thank you all for the entertainment, but there will be no wedding,” I announced resolutely to Peter, his parents, and all the guests at the reception. “I will ensure that the gifts and contributions for this occasion are returned”.

With those final words, I exited the hall alongside my father. As we left, I caught a glimpse of Peter and his parents. Their faces were marked by dismay, while their relatives quickly gathered around them, expressions filled with concern.
