Billionaire Boss’s Son Was in Tears at Dinner — Until the Waitress Whispered: “He Only Needs a Mom…”

The New Life at the Bennett Estate

Amelia leaned against a concrete pillar with the electronic block clutched in her hand. The job would solve every financial worry she’d ever had.

“He wants to pay you to be a stand-in mom,” Darius asked incredulously. Amelia explained the situation to her closest friend that evening.

“I think he genuinely wants someone who can connect with Toby.” She sighed, twisting the phone cord nervously.

“What happens when Lucia and I get used to that, then it’s over?” “And what if I start caring for Toby for real?”

Darius was quiet for a moment. “You’re already thinking like a mom to this kid and you’ve met him once.”

The weekend passed in a blur of pros and cons lists and sleepless nights. Lucia was initially excited about living in a “castle.”

“Would I still see you everyday?” the question broke Amelia’s heart a little.

“Of course, Mia; more than now, actually.” By Sunday evening, Amelia had made her decision to accept with conditions.

“I’ll accept on three conditions,” she told William over the phone. “First, Lucia and I maintain our own apartment for the first month.”

“Second, I want a clear exit strategy.” “And third, I need to know you’re committed to being more present in Toby’s life.”

The silence on the other end stretched long. “Those are reasonable conditions,” William finally spoke.

“The third one, however, may prove challenging given my schedule.” “Then adjust your schedule,” Amelia replied with boldness.

“Toby doesn’t need perfect; he just needs present.” “I agree to your terms,” William said.

Amelia began the following week. A car transported Lucia to her current school while security measures were installed at Amelia’s apartment.

A media firestorm erupted Wednesday morning with the headline: “Bennett billionaire moves waitress and daughter into family mansion.” Paparazzi camped outside Amelia’s apartment building by dinner.

“Is it true you’re William Bennett’s new girlfriend?” shouted one reporter. Lucia clutched Amelia’s hand tightly.

“Mommy, why are they taking pictures of us?” “Just keep walking, Mika,” Amelia whispered.

Inside their apartment, William’s name flashed on the screen. “I’m sending security now; pack what you need.”

“You’re moving into the house tonight.” Amelia argued that their agreement had been for the first month at her place.

“The circumstances have changed; they’re running background checks on you as we speak.” “Is that what you want Lucia exposed to?”

“No,” she admitted quietly. “The security team will be there in 15 minutes.”

As she hung up, Amelia realized this was just the beginning. Her old life and new role were colliding in ways she couldn’t control.

The Bennett estate sprawled across 5 acres in Medina. As the vehicle passed through the gates, Amelia felt they were entering another world.

“It really is a castle,” Lucia whispered, eyes wide at the modernist mansion. Security Chief Marcus Reynolds glanced at them in the rearview mirror.

“Mr. Bennett has prepared the east wing for you both.” “Is Toby already asleep?” Amelia asked.

“No, ma’am; he’s waiting with his father in the main living room.” William stood as they entered, his expression tense.

Toby sat in pajamas clutching a worn stuffed elephant. “I apologize for the circumstances,” William said formally.

Toby slid off his chair and approached Lucia with the stuffed elephant extended. “This is Ellie; she helps when things are scary.”

Lucia accepted the elephant with a small smile. “Thank you,” she whispered.

The exchange seemed to ease the tension in the room. “Perhaps we should all get some rest,” William suggested.

The quarters turned out to be a luxurious three-bedroom suite. Lucia fell asleep almost immediately in her new bedroom.

Amelia stood at the window trying to process the day’s events. A soft knock at the door interrupted her thoughts.

“Just checking that you have everything you need,” William said. “We’re fine, thank you.”

Amelia added that they should talk about the media attention. “What exactly is my role, Mr. Bennett?”

“Reporters seem convinced I’m your latest conquest.” “You’re Toby’s companion; nothing more,” William replied.

“Then perhaps you should make that clearer to your social circle.” “Someone fed that story to the press.”

William’s expression darkened. “My team is investigating the leak.”

He admitted it may have been Christine Harlo, a woman he had been seeing occasionally. “She may have drawn her own conclusions.”

“So your not quite girlfriend is jealous of the single mom you hired?” Amelia asked.

“When you put it that way, it does sound rather absurd.” A hint of a smile touched William’s lips.

Amelia noticed how his features softened when he wasn’t scowling. “We should establish some ground rules for the children’s sake.”

“Does Toby know why I’m here? The truth, I mean.” William paused.

“He knows you’re here to spend time with him.” “The details of our arrangement aren’t important.”

“With all due respect, Mr. Bennett, they are to me.” “I won’t lie to him.”

“Your honesty is refreshing; good night, Ms. Rodriguez.” “Good night, Mr. Bennett.”
