CEO Dropped His Wallet in a Diner—What the Poor Waitress Did Shocked Him
The Choice and the Return
It wasn’t just any wallet; it was thick. Inside were $100 bills, more cash than she had ever seen.
There were also sleek business cards and a platinum credit card gleaming under the dim lights. Her hands trembled.
Rent was overdue. Daniel’s inhaler prescription needed renewing.
They had been eating can soup for days. This wallet could solve everything, at least for a little while.
She sat in the booth staring at it, her heart pounding. Nobody else had noticed.
She could slip it into her apron, pretend she never saw it, and no one would ever know. But then she thought of Daniel.
How could she look him in the eyes if she chose dishonesty? She had always told him, “We may be poor but we don’t lie and we don’t steal that’s something no one can take from us.”
With a heavy sigh, Emily tucked the wallet into her apron, not to keep it but to return it. She ran outside, but Richard’s black car was gone.
That night she went home with the wallet in her bag. Sleep wouldn’t come.
Every time she closed her eyes, she imagined what that money could do. But when Daniel coughed in his sleep, she whispered to herself, “Doing the right thing matters more.”
The next morning, Emily asked her manager if anyone had called about a lost wallet. Nobody had.
She dialed the number on one of the business cards inside. A secretary answered, “Mr hail’s office how may I help you?”
Emily hesitated then said, “Um I think I found something that belongs to Mr hail his wallet.” There was a long pause, then the secretary replied quickly, “Stay where you are he’ll want to meet you in person.”
Within 2 hours, a sleek black car pulled up outside the diner. Richard stepped out, his sharp suit immaculate, though his expression carried a mix of surprise and curiosity.
Emily stood nervously at the door, clutching the wallet in both hands. “mr hail?” she asked softly.
“yes.” His eyes locked onto the wallet instantly.
“you found it?” Emily nodded and handed it to him.
“it was under your booth last night i didn’t want it to get lost.” Richard opened it, checking everything.
