CEO Saw His Baby Talking to a Poor Woman—He Froze When She Said, “I Used to Be Your Wife’s Nurse.”
A Forgotten Guardian and the Path to the Mansion
He turned back confused.
“you know my wife” he asked cautiously.
“you know my wife”.
The woman nodded her eyes glistening. A faint smile crossed her lips.
“yes” she said her voice breaking a little “i used to be your wife’s nurse years ago”.
“yes I used to be your wife’s nurse”.
Ethan stared at her. Her nurse emily never mentioned he stopped wait when. Ethan blinked in disbelief. Her nurse. He studied her face but it was difficult to place her.
“when”.
The woman smiled sadly.
“before you married her I was her nurse when she was recovering from the accident”.
“after the accident” the woman said quietly.
A memory flickered in Ethan’s mind one he hadn’t thought about in years. Memories rushed back. Before they got married Emily had been in a terrible car accident. She had broken her leg fractured her ribs and was bedridden for months.
He had visited her everyday back then bringing her flowers making her laugh. He had visited her daily bringing flowers comforting her and watching her slowly recover. But he couldn’t remember any nurse’s name or face. He couldn’t recall this woman.
“what’s your name?” he asked still cautious.
“clara,” she replied “clara Benson.”
The name hit him like a quiet bell in his mind. The name stirred something in his mind. He remembered now Emily had once mentioned a nurse named Clara who had taken great care of her.
Emily mentioned a nurse she said she owed her recovery to. Emily mentioned a nurse who took care of her even after shifts ended. She was the woman who had given her strength to walk again. But that was years ago.
The woman in front of him didn’t look anything like the bright young nurse he vaguely recalled from Emily’s stories. Ethan looked at her again.
“what happened to you?” Ethan asked quietly.
Clara smiled faintly a bitter kind of smile. Clara smiled sadly.
“life,” she said “things changed i lost my job after my mother got sick i had to take care of her”.
“life happened my mother got sick and I had to take care of her”.
“the hospital replaced me and after she passed I couldn’t get back into nursing one thing led to another and here I am”.
“i lost my job and after she passed I couldn’t get another one things went downhill”.
Lily looked up at her with innocent eyes. Lily still holding her father’s hand looked up at Clara with innocent curiosity.
“do you have a home?” she asked.
“you don’t have a home”.
Ethan felt an uncomfortable twist in his chest. Clara shook her head gently.
“not anymore sweetheart.”
Lily reached into her little jacket pocket and pulled out a half-melted candy. Without hesitation Lily reached into her small pocket and pulled out a half-eaten candy.
“you can have this,” she said earnestly “mommy says sharing his love”.
“you can have this,” she said sweetly.
Ethan’s throat tightened. Ethan’s heart tightened for a moment. He looked at the woman again at her frail hands and kind eyes. Something in him shifted. He didn’t know what to say then he took a deep breath.
“Come with us.”
“Come with us.”
Clara blinked.
“excuse me.”
“what come home with us?”
“Come,” he said again “you shouldn’t be out here my wife will want to see you.”
“my wife will want to see you.”
Clara hesitated but then nodded.
“soon?”
Ethan called his driver and soon they were sitting in his black car. They were sitting in his sleek black car. Lily happily talked about her toys while Clara sat quietly her hands folded in her lap.
Lily was chatting happily as if nothing unusual had happened. Clara sat quietly her eyes wide as the car approached the Grand Miles mansion. They reached the Miles residence a mansion surrounded by gardens and marbled pillars.
Clara’s eyes widened. She looked down at her worn clothes and said softly.
“Maybe I shouldn’t.”
But Emily appeared at the door just then. When they arrived Emily came to the door her apron still on her face lighting up as she saw them. When her eyes fell on Clara she froze. She stopped her eyes filled with tears.
“clara,” she whispered.
Clara nodded her own eyes brimming. Clara smiled weakly.
“hello Emily.”
Emily ran forward and hugged her tightly. Emily ran forward and embraced her.
“i can’t believe it after all these years I looked for you i really did the hospital said you moved away”.
“i can’t believe it i thought I’d never see you again you were my angel back then.”
Clara smiled faintly.
“i guess I did in a way”.
Clara laughed softly.
“you give me too much credit”.
Ethan watched silently feeling something stir deep within him a feeling he hadn’t felt in years gratitude humanity. Ethan stood there watching in silence.
For years he had lived surrounded by luxury but at that moment he realized how powerful genuine human connection could be. Emily invited Clara in. Soon they were sitting together catching up on years lost.
