Blair leaned against the door frame. “The job offer… is it real?”
“Completely real,” Kai confirmed.

“And if I take it, what happens to this?” she gestured between them.
“That’s up to you,” Kai said honestly. “If you want to keep things strictly professional, I’ll respect that. But I need you to know that what I feel for you is real, Blair. It has nothing to do with Sapphire Cove or business”.
Blair studied him for a long moment.
“You know what bothers me most? That I’m still drawn to you even knowing you weren’t completely honest. What does that say about me?”
“Maybe it says you’re seeing the real me, beyond the title or the bank account,” Kai suggested.
He told her the man who kayaked, danced, and listened to her stories was the real him, not the CEO or the billionaire.
“Billionaire?” Blair’s eyebrows shot up.
Kai winced. “Approximately. Not that it matters”.
“It kind of does when you’re offering me a job,” Blair pointed out. “I need to know what I’m getting into”.
“Fair enough,” Kai conceded. “Richards Global has assets worth about $5.7 billion. My personal net worth is around $3.2 billion. I own controlling interests in seventeen hotels and resorts worldwide”.
He added that Sapphire Cove was the first one he had taken such a personal interest in. Blair looked faintly stunned.
“And you stayed in that standard ocean-view suite?”
“It’s a perfectly nice room,” Kai said with a small smile, “though the shower pressure could use some work”.
Despite herself, Blair laughed. “I’ve been telling management that for years”.
A comfortable silence fell between them. Finally, Blair stepped back from the doorway.
“Would you like to come in? I made dinner. Nothing fancy, just local fish and vegetables from my garden”.
“That sounds perfect,” Kai said, relief washing over him.

“Agreed,” Kai said immediately. “We can keep things professional at work and see where this leads in our personal time”.
“And you’ll be splitting your time between here and where, exactly?” Blair asked.
“New York primarily,” Kai answered, “but I’m planning to spend at least a week each month here during the renovation, and I can be flexible beyond that”.
Kai hesitated. “Would it be too forward to say I’m considering a more permanent presence here?”
Blair’s eyes widened. “Because of the resort, or because of me?”
“Both,” Kai admitted. “This place has gotten under my skin in a way I didn’t expect. And you… well, I’ve never met anyone like you, Blair”.
She blushed slightly. “That’s a pretty big change to consider after just a week”.
“I know,” Kai acknowledged. “But I’ve built my career on recognizing valuable opportunities quickly, and I think you might be the most valuable opportunity I’ve ever encountered”.
Blair rolled her eyes, but she was smiling. “That might be the most businessman-like romantic sentiment I’ve ever heard”.
“I’m still working on my delivery,” Kai laughed.
Later, as they sat on Blair’s porch watching the stars, Kai took her hand gently.
“So where do we go from here?”
“Forward, I guess,” Blair said. “One step at a time. You focus on revitalizing Sapphire Cove, I’ll focus on reconnecting it with the community, and we’ll see what happens with us along the way”.
“I like that plan,” Kai agreed. “Though I should warn you, I can be quite determined when I see something I want”.
“Good,” Blair said, leaning in to kiss him softly, “because so can I”.
Six months later, Sapphire Cove’s grand reopening was the talk of the hospitality industry. Under Blair’s guidance, the resort had been transformed into a showcase of island culture and sustainability while maintaining its luxury appeal.
