His Christmas Date Was a Disaster… Until His Daughter Said, “She’s the One, Daddy”

A Cold Date and a Warm Welcome Home

Michael Roberts hadn’t been on a date in 3 years. Not since his wife Sarah passed away from cancer. He’d thrown himself into raising their daughter Emma, who was now 7 years old. But his sister kept pushing him. She said Emma needed to see him happy again.

So he finally agreed to meet someone. Her name was Victoria Cross. She was a corporate lawyer from downtown, confident and polished—everything Michael thought he should want. The date was set for the Saturday before Christmas. Michael had arranged for his sister to watch Emma.

He put on his best shirt and drove to the restaurant. Victoria was already there when he arrived, sitting at a corner table. She looked stunning in a red dress. But from the moment he sat down, something felt off.

Victoria barely looked up from her phone. When she did, she talked about her cases, her promotions, and her luxury apartment. Michael tried to connect. He mentioned Emma. Victoria’s expression changed.

She said she wasn’t really a kid person, and that children complicated things. Michael felt his chest tighten. He excused himself and called his sister. He couldn’t do this. He drove home early, feeling like a failure.

When he walked through the door, Emma was still awake. She ran to him with her teddy bear.

“Daddy, you’re back early. Is everything okay?”

Michael knelt down and hugged her.
