I Comforted Two Lost Twins On Wall Street — And Their Billionaire Father Changed My Life

Part 2

The word hung heavily in the humid evening air like a massive storm cloud waiting to burst.

Brian swallowed hard, his throat completely dry and tight as he stared at his crying daughters.

“Girls, please come with Daddy right now,” his voice was barely a rough whisper.

Sarah pressed her tear-stained face harder against my worn uniform, refusing to even acknowledge him.

They were not throwing a simple, childish tantrum.

This was a desperate, primal plea for maternal warmth that they had clearly been lacking for a very long time.

Looking down at the sobbing children, I then shifted my gaze back to the completely shattered billionaire standing before me.

“Sir, if I try to walk away right now, they are going to run straight into the street after me,” I pointed out sensibly.

Stating the terrifying fact seemed to finally snap him back to reality.

He slowly stood up straight, dusting off his ruined, expensive trousers with trembling hands.

“Would you accept a ride home?” he offered quietly, sounding utterly defeated by the chaotic situation.

Glancing up at the large street clock mounted on the corner bank, I realized it was past seven in the evening.

My regular bus was long gone.

Catching the next series of trains would mean arriving in my dangerous neighborhood close to midnight.

My frail, sickly mother would be waiting up, sick with worry about my whereabouts.

“Just until they calm down,” I agreed cautiously, not wanting to overstep my boundaries as a complete stranger.

A luxurious, elongated black town car pulled up seamlessly to the curb just moments later.

The sharply dressed chauffeur opened the heavy, armored door for us.

Katie climbed in first, pulling me tightly by the hand into the massive vehicle.

Inside, it smelled richly of expensive leather and fresh cool air conditioning that sent a shiver down my sweaty spine.

Both girls fell deeply asleep within a matter of minutes, their heavy heads resting securely on my soft shoulders.

Through the rearview mirror, I caught a glimpse of Brian sitting rigidly in the front passenger seat.

He was staring out the window, but the dark glass reflected his sad face perfectly.

Watching him quickly wipe away a solitary heavy tear before composing himself broke my heart.

When we arrived at his magnificent Upper East Side mansion, he offered me a formal position as a live-in nanny.

It included triple my current cleaning salary, free room and board, and my Sundays completely off.

Thinking of my mother’s expensive diabetes medications, I boldly accepted under one strict, non-negotiable condition.

He must never, ever yell at the girls the way he did on the street today.

I promised to raise them with joy, dirt, and laughter, not strict, cold discipline.

Over the next few weeks, I brought warmth and messy baking projects back into their depressing, quiet home.

But then his arrogant, wealthy fiancee Jessica arrived unexpectedly and caught us making a mess in the kitchen.

She aggressively demanded that Brian fire me immediately for ruining her perfect, disciplined household.

I stood silently by the front door as he turned to look at the designer suitcases piled in the living room, wondering if my one condition was about to cost me everything?
