I paid for my stepdaughter’s birthday, but wasn’t even invited she chose to invite her deadbeat dad
Six Years of Stepping Up
I paid for my stepdaughter’s birthday but wasn’t even invited. She chose to invite her deadbeat dad instead, so I canceled her car, school, and housing expenses.
Now she’s furious and my wife wants me to reconsider, but I said no. Hello Reddit Eyes Plus here.
Let me just start by saying I never thought I’d be that guy. I never thought I’d be the kind of man who feels so unappreciated and hurt by someone he’s loved like his own child.
I felt so hurt that I’d pull the rug out from under her life. But here I am.
I married my wife Angela six years ago. At the time, her daughter Kayla was twelve.
She was a sweet kid, smart, shy, and a little guarded, which made sense. Her bio dad Mike had basically been in and out of her life since she was five.
He was a classic deadbeat. He’d blow into town, promise her the world, and then ghost.
You know the type. I came in and tried not to be the replacement.
I just wanted to be a dad, not the dad. I showed up for everything.
I was at every science fair and every doctor’s appointment. I attended every terrifying parent teacher conference.
I was the one who taught her to drive. I helped her write her college essays.
I coached her through breakups. I even cried with her when she didn’t get into her dream school.
And here’s the kicker: I’ve been footing the bill for everything. I bought her car and covered her college tuition.
I signed the lease in my name for her apartment near campus. Groceries, books, gas, everything—you name it.
I never once asked to be called Dad. I knew that was sacred.
But in my heart, she was mine. I loved her like she was.
