Little Girl Steals Billionaire’s Wallet to Save Her Mother—Not Knowing the Man Is Her Bio Dad
The Truth in the Alley
But what Emily didn’t know was that Daniel Grayson had noticed, not because of the wallet but because of the eyes. Something about that girl’s eyes made him freeze. Something deep in his chest shifted.
“Stop her!” someone shouted. But Daniel held up a hand. “Let her go,” he said quietly.
“I still on the door.” Outside, Emily ran until her legs gave out. She hid behind a dumpster in the alley behind a closed laundromat, her fingers trembling.
She opened the wallet. Inside were cards, notes, business IDs, and something she hadn’t expected: a photo of a woman holding a newborn baby. The woman was her mother.
Her throat dried up and her mind spun. What was her mother doing in a billionaire’s wallet? But before she could think further, headlights flashed.
A sleek black car stopped at the alley’s end and the man stepped out, Daniel Grayson. She stood frozen like a rabbit caught in light. He didn’t shout and he didn’t threaten.
He just stood a few feet away and spoke gently. “You didn’t even check how much cash was inside.” Emily clutched the wallet tighter.
“I didn’t mean to to hurt anyone,” she said. He interrupted softly, “Then why are you crying?” “I I needed the money, my mom is sick.”
“I’m sorry, you can take it back,” she stammered. But instead of taking the wallet, Daniel walked closer and knelt to her level. “What’s your name?” he asked.
“Emily,” she whispered. Daniel’s voice cracked. “Emily, what’s your mother’s name?”
“Clara. Clara Monroe.” The world stopped. Daniel stumbled back as if hit.
Clara. His heart pounded so loud he thought the whole street could hear it. Clara was the woman he’d loved in college, the woman who’ vanished without a word 9 years ago.
A thousand memories came rushing. There was the letter she never replied to, the night he waited in the rain with a ring, and the phone call that never came.
He took out the photo from his wallet. “This picture, do you know where it was taken?” Emily looked at it.
“That was the hospital when I was born,” she said. “Mom kept that photo in her journal. Why do you have it?”
