Millionaire Rushes Into An ER With a Wound, Not Expecting To Fall For The Nurse Helping Him

The Unexpected Patient

Harrison Holt stormed into the emergency room, blood soaking through the sleeve of his tailored white dress shirt. His jaw was clenched, his normally composed demeanor shattered by the sharp sting of pain radiating from his arm.

He didn’t have time for this. He had a multi-million dollar deal closing in less than an hour, and instead, he was standing in a crowded hospital waiting for someone to stitch him up.

“Sir, you need to sit down,” a nurse instructed.

But he barely registered the words. Then she appeared.

“Follow me,” the nurse said, her voice calm but firm.

She had striking hazel eyes, her dark hair pulled into a loose ponytail, and an air of quiet confidence that instantly caught his attention.

“I don’t have time for this,” Harrison gritted out as he followed her into a private exam room.

“Then you shouldn’t have gotten yourself injured,” she shot back without looking at him, snapping on a pair of gloves.

His lips twitched at the unexpected challenge. People rarely spoke to him like that. It wasn’t exactly planned. She finally met his gaze, her expression unimpressed.

“It never is.”

She gently helped him remove his ruined shirt, revealing a deep gash along his bicep. Her fingers were warm against his skin, and Harrison felt something strange tighten in his chest—an unfamiliar sensation he refused to name.

“You need stitches,” she informed him as she cleaned the wound. “What happened?”

He exhaled sharply. “A broken champagne glass. Dinner meeting got a little tense.”

She arched a brow. “And you thought a hospital visit would fit into your busy schedule?”

“I thought I could walk it off.”

She rolled her eyes, but there was something almost amused in her expression. “You businessmen always think you’re invincible.”

He didn’t miss the hint of exasperation in her voice. “You deal with a lot of guys like me?”

She gave him a look. “More than I’d like.”

For some reason, that bothered him. He wasn’t sure why.

“What’s your name?” he asked, watching her carefully as she threaded the needle.

She hesitated, then said, “Vera Ellis.”

“Vera,” he repeated, testing the way it felt on his tongue. “Well, Vera, you’re surprisingly good at making a man feel small.”

She didn’t look up as she began stitching. “It’s a gift.”

A sharp sting made him inhale sharply, but he barely noticed the pain. He was too focused on the way her eyes flickered with something unreadable, something that intrigued him more than it should.

For the first time in years, a deal wasn’t the most important thing on his mind. That was dangerous. Harrison barely registered the rhythmic pull of the stitches threading through his skin.

His focus remained entirely on the woman in front of him, Vera. There was something about her, something refreshingly unshaken by the authority he carried everywhere else.

Most people bent under the weight of his presence, but she didn’t even flinch. He wasn’t used to that. As she finished the last stitch, she finally glanced at him, her gaze assessing.

“You’ll need to keep this clean and dry for a few days. No heavy lifting.”

He exhaled through his nose, already irritated by the idea of slowing down.

“Define heavy lifting.”

She gave him a look that didn’t require words. Harrison had met billionaires, politicians, and CEOs who cowered under his scrutiny.

But Vera Ellis merely crossed her arms, waiting for him to acknowledge her authority in this moment.

“Fine,” he conceded, though he had no intention of letting a minor wound dictate his schedule.

She peeled off her gloves and tossed them into the bin, clearly ready to send him on his way. But Harrison wasn’t done with this encounter.

“Do you always take such good care of your patients?” he asked, shifting his posture and testing the waters.

She arched a brow. “It’s my job.”

“But do you always challenge them like this?”

“Only the ones who think they are above medical advice.”

His lips pressed together, something dangerously close to amusement flickering inside him. He didn’t often find himself at a loss in conversations, but Vera had a way of keeping him off balance.
