My Best Friend Treated Women Like Disposable Samples — Until He Tried To Add Me To The Rotation

Part 1

I should have known better than to think I was the exception to his rule.

For three years, I had a front-row seat to Brian’s revolving door of women.

He had a whole philosophy about dating that he delivered with complete, shameless confidence.

He told me once that he dated girls for a couple of weeks just to try them out.

I remember staring at him across his kitchen island like he had grown a second head.

He genuinely believed there was nothing wrong with treating people like disposable samples.

His logic was that you had to test the waters to know what you actually wanted.

I didn’t argue with him because I honestly didn’t know how to process that level of detachment.

I had always been the type to date with real intentions, looking for something permanent.

Brian lived by a completely different code, strictly enforcing what he called his rotation.

Girls cycled in and out of his life on a rigid, predictable weekly schedule.

Every time I went over to his place, there was a new face sitting on his gray leather couch.

Some of them were genuinely cool people with interesting hobbies and great personalities.

Others were complete airheads who just stared blankly at the TV like mindless drones.

There were the oversharers who dumped their entire life stories on me before I even learned their last names.

The cool ones always disappeared after two weeks, just like everyone else.

Then there were the volatile ones who tested the absolute limits of his little system.

A girl named Heather decided she was going to be the one to break his rules.

She completely lost her mind just because I sat next to Brian during a casual game of Mario Kart.

I tried to patiently explain that we had been best friends for years and there was nothing going on.

She didn’t care about our history or the fact that I was basically part of the furniture in that apartment.

The argument escalated faster than I could process, turning his living room into a literal war zone.

By the end of the night, there was shattered glass all over the expensive hardwood floor.

Chunks of her weave were scattered near the coffee table like casualties of a bizarre battle.

Brian just stood there leaning against the wall, watching the chaos unfold like it was standard Tuesday night entertainment.

He actually seemed deeply amused by the entire disaster playing out in his living room.

After she finally stormed out, he turned to me with this ridiculous, knowing smirk on his face.

He calmly explained that this exact crazy scenario was precisely why he needed his rotation.

He claimed he had to aggressively filter through the crazy ones to eventually find the right one.

I didn’t say a word as I grabbed a broom from the closet and started sweeping up the broken glass.

I just quietly cleaned up his mess, because that was always my designated role in his life.

I was there through every single girl, every petty fight, and every inevitable, dramatic breakup.

I was the one constant anchor in the absolute disaster he called a dating life.

Deep down, I foolishly thought my permanence in his life meant I was actually special to him.

I convinced myself that I was the only girl he respected enough to keep around indefinitely.

I watched them all come in thinking they were the prize, only to watch them leave in tears two weeks later.

I stayed through all of it because I believed I was entirely separate from his sick little game.

That naive illusion completely shattered into pieces last Friday night.

We were hanging out alone at his place, ordering cheap takeout just like we had a hundred times before.

The apartment was quiet, and nothing about the evening felt out of the ordinary.

Then he slowly turned to me with this strange, heavily calculated look in his eyes.

It was a predatory look I had seen him give a dozen other women, but never me.

He casually mentioned that he had been thinking about something for a long while now.

My stomach dropped instantly to the floor, and my voice came out much quieter than I expected.

I asked him what he meant, silently praying to any god listening that I was misreading the situation.

He smiled that same practiced smile, acting like he was about to deliver a sweeping romantic line.

He pointed out that we already spent all our free time together and we obviously had a great vibe.

He nonchalantly suggested that we should just see what happens between us.

I should have felt a swarm of excited butterflies fluttering in my chest at that confession.

Instead, I just felt a cold, sickening wave of nausea wash over my entire body.

I stared at him, desperately trying to comprehend the sheer, unadulterated audacity of what he was implying.

I asked him point-blank if he was seriously asking to date me after everything I had witnessed.

He didn’t even miss a beat.

He leaned back against the cushions, flashed that practiced smile, and told me it was finally time to test me out.
