My Brother Punched Me In The Face Because I Moved Out — So I Called The Police

Part 1
I locked the apartment door behind me, my hands shaking so violently I could barely turn the deadbolt.
Living with my younger brother was supposed to be a fun way to reconnect after I moved to the city.
Tyler had just finished high school and felt completely lost.
He begged me to let him move into my spare room.
I agreed, thinking it would be good for him to get out of our suffocating hometown.
I wanted to show him the ropes of adult life and give him a safe place to land.
Things felt deeply wrong almost immediately.
I started casually dating someone a few months after Tyler moved in.
It was nothing serious, just casual dinners and movies.
Tyler didn’t just get annoyed about the noise or having a guy around our space.
He became openly furious, treating my dating life like a personal betrayal.
He cornered me in the kitchen one morning, demanding to know why I hadn’t consulted him first.
His face was flushed red, and he stood entirely too close to me.
I stepped back, reminding him that I paid most of the rent and didn’t need his permission to date.
He slammed his hand on the counter.
He told me I was acting like a tramp and that college guys only wanted one thing.
The air in the apartment grew thick and suffocating after that argument.
He started policing my schedule with terrifying intensity.
He would text me constantly if I was out past ten, demanding to know exactly who I was with.
I tried to brush it off as him being overprotective, but the tension was eating away at me.
Then my belongings started disappearing from my bedroom.
A bottle of my favorite expensive perfume vanished from my bathroom counter.
I searched every cabinet, thinking I had just misplaced it.
A few days later, some of my favorite dresses and lotion went missing too.
I confronted Tyler in the living room, pointing out that nobody else had a key to our place.
He just shrugged, casually flipping through channels on the television.
He blamed his friends, claiming they must have swiped my things during a party he threw while I was at work.
He didn’t seem angry that his friends had stolen from his own sister.
He actually looked amused by my frustration.
A few weeks later, he proudly announced he was bringing a girl home for dinner.
I breathed a sigh of relief, hoping a new relationship would distract him from obsessing over my life.
I spent hours cooking a nice meal, wanting to make a good impression.
The doorbell rang, and I rushed over to open it while Tyler lingered in the kitchen.
My breath caught sharply in my throat.
She looked exactly like me.
We had the same platinum blonde hair, styled in the exact same cut.
We had the same green eyes and fair skin.
We even wore our makeup the exact same way, right down to the shade of lipstick.
Tyler watched my reaction from the kitchen with a sickeningly smug smile.
I forced a tight grin and ushered her inside, trying to ignore the ice forming in my stomach.
During dinner, we discovered we had the exact same major and shared identical mannerisms.
They sat on the couch afterward, making out aggressively while I tried to read a book in the armchair.
The sloppy sounds filled the silent room, making my skin crawl.
I finally asked them to take it to his bedroom so I could have some peace.
Tyler pulled away from her, glaring at me with cold, dead eyes.
He accused me of being jealous.
He said I was just upset that he wasn’t paying attention to me anymore.
The girlfriend looked completely horrified by his words, her face draining of color.
He just smirked, daring me to challenge him.
I realized right then that I couldn’t stay in that apartment another day.
This wasn’t just overprotective sibling behavior anymore.
This was something deeply twisted and dangerous.
I confided in my friend Heather the next afternoon over coffee.
She listened to the whole story, her eyes growing wider with every detail.
She immediately told me I could move into her spare room.
I waited until Tyler was home with his girlfriend on Friday night to break the news.
I figured he wouldn’t start a screaming match with a witness sitting right there.
I packed a go-bag full of essentials and hid it near the door.
I approached them in the living room and told him I was moving out at the end of the month.
He immediately ordered his girlfriend to leave.
I begged her to stay, my voice cracking with panic, but she scurried out the door without looking back.
As soon as the deadbolt clicked shut, Tyler’s entire demeanor changed.
He backed me against the kitchen counter, trapping me there.
He told me I was a worthless piece of trash.
He said nobody would ever want to marry me because I was a skank.
He said he was the only one trying to protect me from ruining my pathetic life.
I pushed past his shoulder, my heart hammering violently against my ribs.
I told him I was leaving right now and would deal with the landlord on Monday.
I grabbed my packed overnight bag and turned toward the front door.
I heard him whisper my name right behind my shoulder.
I spun around to face him.
His fist slammed directly into my eye socket with explosive force.
My vision flashed blinding white.
I collapsed onto the hardwood floor, my ears ringing violently as pain radiated through my skull.
Without saying another word, he stepped over my body and walked out the door.
