My Family Tried To Secretly Evict Me From Our Trust — They Didn’t Know I Had The Receipts

Part 2

My hand trembled as I held the phone.

I stared at the words glaring back at me.

Leave now.

Don’t look at them.

Don’t speak.

For a few seconds, I couldn’t even breathe.

I could still hear the laughter and music seeping through the walls from the ballroom.

It was a stark contrast to the knot of dread twisting in my stomach.

It felt like I was watching my own life from a distance.

The room spun slightly as if my body already knew what my mind hadn’t processed.

I swallowed hard and forced myself to focus.

Why would my father send me that now?

I glanced back toward the ballroom doors.

Through the gap, I could see Heather laughing with a group of guests.

Brenda’s hand was elegantly perched on a glass of champagne as she held court near the stage.

They were radiant and unbothered.

No one in that room looked like they’d just sent a threat. <BREAK> I tightened my grip on the phone.

Without overthinking it, I pressed the number to call back.

It rang twice before a voice I hadn’t expected to hear picked up.

Dan’s voice came through low and strained.

It sounded like he was hiding somewhere he wasn’t supposed to be.

I stepped further into the empty corridor.

I instinctively moved away from the noise.

I asked him what was going on and why I had to leave.

He hissed at me to just do as he said.

His tone was unlike anything I’d ever heard from him.

He was usually measured and distant, but this was raw fear.

He told me not to drink anything.

He ordered me not to sign anything.

He told me to get my things and go quietly. <BREAK> My pulse thudded in my ears.

I demanded to know what he was talking about.

He cut me off entirely.

He told me he couldn’t explain now.

He begged me to just leave.

Before I could argue, the line went dead.

He had hung up on me.

I stood there with the phone still pressed to my ear.

I was completely frozen.

The message, his tone, the sheer urgency of it all.

It didn’t feel like paranoia.

It felt entirely real.

I shoved the phone back into my clutch.

I tried to calm my erratic breathing.

My heels clicked softly against the marble floor as I started to move.

I was unsure of where to go next.

I thought about leaving through the side exit.

I wanted to just walk away from the whole event.

But something stopped me in my tracks.

I heard Heather’s voice just around the corner.

Her polished tone was quieter now.

It was still dripping with that superiority she wore like a designer dress.

She told someone that I wouldn’t fight it.

She claimed I never did.

She insisted they just needed to make sure the paperwork cleared tonight. <BREAK> My heart pounded against my ribs.

A man’s voice responded, muffled and indistinct.

I could just barely make out the words transfer and accounts.

I leaned closer to the wall.

My breath was shallow as I strained to catch every word.

Heather confidently stated that I didn’t even know what was coming.

She promised I’d be out of the way before I figured it out.

It felt like my blood turned to ice.

My own sister was talking about pushing me out of something I didn’t even know I was part of.

I backed away slowly.

I was careful not to make a single sound.

I didn’t even know where I was going.

I couldn’t stand there listening to more.

I made my way back toward the far hallway.

My mind raced through terrifying possibilities.

How much had they planned behind my back?
