My fiancée dumped me to “be single” months later, she showed up pregnant, insisting it’s mine

Truth Revealed and Moving On

The results came in: 0% chance the baby was mine. I didn’t feel vindicated.

I didn’t feel angry. I just felt empty.

Like the last shred of hope I’d had for her was gone. She called me that night.

I almost didn’t answer but some part of me wanted to hear what lie she’d come up with.

“I didn’t know” she said immediately “I swear Ethan I thought I thought there was a chance”

“No Chloe” I said quietly. “You knew.”

“That’s why you tried to skip the test. You just hoped I’d be desperate enough to take you back without asking questions.”

Silence. Then she started crying again.

“I can’t do this alone” I let that hang in the air.

“Then you should have thought about that before you burned every bridge you had” And I hung up.

Over the next few months word got around. Small town gossip travels faster than light.

People ask questions. Some took her side at first, but when the truth came out the sympathy dried up.

The guy who actually fathered the child turned out he wanted nothing to do with her or the baby.

Meanwhile I rebuilt, got promoted at work, and started going to the gym again.

I even took a trip to Denver just because I could. One night maybe a year later I ran into Chloe at the grocery store.

She had the baby in the cart. She looked tired, older.

Life had clearly chewed her up and spit her out. She tried to smile.

“Hi Ethan.” I nodded.

“Chloe,” her eyes softened like she was searching for some trace of the guy who used to love her.

But all she found was the man who’d finally learned his worth. I paid for my groceries, walked out, and didn’t look back.
