My Husband Abandoned Me For His Mistress At The Airport — Until The Agent Scanned His Passport

Part 1

I have decided to spend the rest of my life overseas with Megan.

You can live out whatever is left of your miserable life here in America however you want.

In the middle of the bustling departure terminal at JFK International Airport, surrounded by throngs of travelers, my husband Craig threw those words at me.

Right next to him, pressing her body against his, was a woman more than a decade younger than him.

She had her arm tightly wrapped around his.

Her name was Megan.

She was a subordinate at Craig’s firm and, as it turned out, his mistress of many years.

Right in front of me, Craig proudly adjusted his grip on Megan’s hand.

They gazed at each other and smiled, acting as if I did not even exist.

After twenty-five years of marriage, dedicating my entire youth to him and my life to caring for his elderly parents, this cruel declaration was my reward.

Five years ago, my mother-in-law developed severe dementia and became completely bedridden.

Craig simply declared that he was exhausted from work and that it was naturally my job to care for her, flatly refusing to help in any way.

Woken up countless times in the middle of the night, cleaning up her bodily fluids, and enduring the abusive outbursts typical of dementia patients, I desperately pushed through it all.

I told myself it was for the sake of our family.

While I was losing my mind, looking haggard and exhausted from round-the-clock caregiving, Craig was dining at high-end restaurants with Megan and spending elegant weekends in luxury hotel suites.

My mother-in-law passed away six months ago.

At the wake, Craig stood before our relatives and tearfully lied, claiming that he alone had held his mother’s hand as she took her final breath.

He played the part of the devoted, grieving son perfectly, dabbing his eyes with a handkerchief while stealing the credit for my years of blood and sweat.

At that exact moment, whatever faint affection I still harbored for him completely died.

Normally, a wife might scream and cry in the middle of the airport or grab her husband by the collar.

Some might whisper curses, worrying about the public spectacle, or simply collapse on the floor from the sheer shock of it all.

But I was not angry.

I did not shed a single tear.

I just looked at the pathetic couple in front of me and smiled quietly.

I gave him a calm nod and told him to have a safe flight.

For a brief second, Craig looked totally thrown off.

He had undoubtedly expected me to cling to him and wail in despair.

Given his massive ego, he surely wanted to bask in a final sense of superiority by watching his wife break down and cry over losing him.

He scowled and asked what was with my attitude, accusing me of trying to act tough.

I kept my voice low and steady, assuring him I was simply respecting his decision.

Craig let out an arrogant scoff and looked away from me as if I were a piece of trash.

He told me he had reached his absolute limit with a drab, boring woman like me.

He bragged that Megan stimulated his business inspiration and they were moving to Dubai to launch a new company.

It was a massive relief to him knowing he would never have to see my dull face ever again.

He was wearing a youthful designer suit that seemed desperate to hide his actual age.

On his wrist gleamed the luxury watch I had stretched our budget to buy for our tenth anniversary.

To him, I was nothing more than unnecessary baggage from a past life.

The scent of Megan’s perfume hit my nose.

It was an overwhelmingly sweet, headache-inducing fragrance.

It was the exact same smell that used to drift from Craig’s suits from time to time.

There was a period when smelling that scent made my chest tighten with agonizing pain.

There were nights I spent desperately pretending not to know the reality that my husband was holding another woman.

But now I felt absolutely nothing.

Standing beside him, Megan opened her mouth, her voice dripping with fake sweetness.

She apologized with an undeniable glint of triumph in her eyes, claiming Craig needed a young, energetic partner like her.

She told me a wife who just sits around the house doing nothing would only crush his potential.

She promised to make him the happiest man in the world and asked me to step aside with peace of mind.

I could clearly see her looking down on me, pitying me, and soaking in her own sense of superiority.

Craig viewed me as a clueless, foolish housewife.

He used to laugh and call me cheap for tracking our household expenses down to the last penny and diligently saving for our future.

Yet, I knew perfectly well that he had secretly canceled the long-term savings account I had built up in my name.

He planned to use every last cent of the eighty thousand dollars I had scraped together to fund his new life with his mistress.

I looked right at Megan, speaking from the bottom of my heart, and wished her luck taking care of him.

I gave her a polite, dismissive nod, knowing there was no need to exchange another word.

Craig spat out that I was a creepy woman right to the bitter end.

He pulled Megan close by her shoulder and began walking toward the TSA security checkpoint, dragging two massive suitcases behind them.

I stood frozen in place, quietly watching their retreating backs.

The sunlight streaming through the airport ceiling illuminated their path.

Craig’s steps were light, and he and Megan frequently looked at each other and laughed.

Their heads were surely filled with expectations for the glamorous celebrity lifestyle awaiting them in Dubai.

They fully believed without a shadow of a doubt that my retirement funds and the hidden inheritance his parents left behind were entirely theirs to spend.

I whispered a soft goodbye under my breath.

The two of them finally reached the entrance of the security checkpoint.

With a smug smile still plastered on his face, Craig pulled his passport and boarding pass from his pocket and handed them to the TSA agent.

Megan stood right behind him, casually scrolling through her smartphone while she waited.

I glanced down at my wristwatch.

It was just past ten in the morning.

Everything was going exactly according to plan.

The moment the agent scanned Craig’s passport, a sharp, piercing alarm suddenly blared from the security terminal.
