My Husband Cheated With My Best Friend — So I Hired His Brother To Destroy Him

Part 2

We stood there in the doorway for a moment that I cannot accurately measure in passing seconds.

It felt like the small room had developed its own crushing, inescapable gravitational field.

“Brenda,” he finally breathed out.

It was not a question or a polite family greeting.

It sounded exactly like he was merely confirming a terrible, unavoidable reality.

“Brian,” I replied quietly, matching his devastating tone.

He did not immediately invite me inside his sanctuary.

His dark eyes darted frantically from my rigid posture to the intake form clutched in my shaking hands.

“You should come in,” he said softly, stepping aside.

I followed him into the dim inner office and he closed the heavy oak door behind us.

He did not offer me terrible coffee or empty pleasantries.

He simply walked around and sat heavily behind his massive, cluttered wooden desk.

I sat across from him and violently smoothed my skirt to hide my violently shaking hands.

He folded his large fingers on the polished surface.

“Tell me exactly why you are sitting in my office,” he commanded gently.

And I did, without sparing a single brutal detail.

I unloaded every agonizing piece of the puzzle.

I told him about the early flight and the pristine white sedan parked proudly in my driveway.

I explained the meticulous timeline I had built in the lonely, sterile hotel room.

I placed my phone squarely on the center of his desk.

I played him the damning audio recording without ever breaking intense eye contact.

I watched his familiar face remain strictly, terrifyingly controlled.

He was a man who had intentionally trained himself to absorb horrific information professionally.

The only break in his heavy armor was a single muscle in his jaw that twitched once before going completely still.

When the awful recording finally ended, a suffocating, heavy silence blanketed the entire room.

“How long have you known about my firm?” he asked sharply, his voice dropping an octave.

“Since four o’clock this morning,” I answered completely honestly.

I explained that a trusted colleague had referred me without knowing his last name.

He nodded slowly, visually processing the massive, universe-altering coincidence.

“Brian, I need you to tell me right now if you absolutely cannot do this,” I pushed.

I told him I completely understood if it was an insurmountable ethical conflict.

I was fully prepared to walk out the door and find someone else to destroy his brother.

He stared at me for an agonizingly long, quiet time.

I started to feel the intense vulnerability of having just handed my worst nightmare to my husband’s flesh and blood.

“I have known something was fundamentally, deeply wrong with Greg for about a year,” he admitted quietly.

He confessed that Greg had stopped calling and became highly evasive about our future plans.

Brian picked up the manila folder containing my completed intake form.

He traced the sharp edge of the paper with his calloused thumb.

“Ethically, I need to officially disclose the familial relationship on the file,” he stated.

Then he looked me dead in the eye with a terrifying clarity.

“But I can do this,” he promised with absolute certainty.

I exhaled a ragged breath I did not realize I had been holding for ten minutes.

“There is something else you need to clearly understand,” he warned abruptly.

His tone shifted into something dangerously cold and entirely professional.

If he took this case, how far was I actually willing to let him go?
