My Husband Divorced Me To Leave Me Penniless — He Didn’t Know My Late Father Left Me $142 Billion

Part 2

The old man turned slowly, his sharp gray eyes locking onto mine.

He didn’t smile, but his expression softened just a fraction.

“Hello, Megan,” he said gently.

My breath hitched in my throat as I recognized him not as a powerful attorney, but as the man who used to play chess with my father on Sundays when I was a little girl.

“Uncle Victor?”

I whispered, my voice trembling.

Tyler let out a loud, mocking groan.

“Oh, great, the family reunion,” he sneered.

“Look, Gramps, she got her five grand, so take her to a diner and celebrate.”

Victor Miller turned to Tyler, looking at him the way a biologist examines a particularly uninteresting slide of bacteria.

“Mr.

Hayes, you are currently a junior vice president at your financial firm, correct?”

Victor asked coldly.

Tyler puffed out his chest, completely oblivious to the danger.

“Senior vice president as of next week, actually.”

Victor opened his briefcase, the click of the latches echoing like gunshots in the silent room.

“Your Honor, I have here a document that requires immediate reading,” Victor said, turning back to the judge.

“It is the last will and testament of Thomas Robinson.”

Tyler laughed out loud.

“Her dead dad?

What did he leave her, a collection of rusty tools?”

Victor slid a thick document toward the judge.

“Mr.

Robinson passed away three days ago,” Victor announced clearly.

“His will was to be executed only when his daughter was free of marital encumbrances.”

I felt the room spin wildly around me as the grief hit me like a physical blow.

My dad was gone.

He had hidden his illness from me to protect me.

“Thomas Robinson was the silent founder of Prometheus Dynamics,” Victor continued, his voice echoing in the dead silent room.

Tyler blinked in utter confusion.

“Prometheus?

The tech company that manufactures components for eighty percent of the world’s electronics?”

Victor nodded once.

“Yes.

He placed his assets in a blind trust to raise his daughter away from the vultures.”

Victor pulled a second document from his bag.

“The will stipulates that the entirety of the estate transfers to his only living heir, Megan Robinson.

The total value of the inheritance is roughly one hundred and forty-two billion dollars.”

Ashley gasped audibly, dropping her hand from Tyler’s arm as if he had suddenly caught on fire.

Tyler’s knees actually buckled, and he grabbed the heavy wooden table for support.

“However,” Victor said smoothly, holding up the divorce decree the judge had just signed.

“The condition was that Megan must be unmarried at the time of the transfer.

If you had stayed married to her for just five more minutes, Mr.

Hayes, you would have been entitled to half of the appreciation of those assets.

Roughly seventy billion dollars.”

Tyler looked at the clock on the wall, then at the freshly signed divorce papers, and finally at me, pure horror dawning on his face.

He had rushed the divorce, mocked me, and demanded I take nothing, completely sealing his own fate.

I looked at the man who had just thrown me away like garbage, watching the color drain from his face, and wondered: just how far would Tyler go to get his hands on the fortune he had so foolishly surrendered?
