My Husband Proposed To His Mistress At Our Gala — I Evicted Him Mid-Speech

Part 1
My phone buzzed against the marble vanity while I was adjusting my beige designer gown.
I tapped the screen, expecting another generic congratulatory text from an investor.
Instead, it was a photo from an unknown number.
A stunningly beautiful woman with flawless makeup stared back at me, wearing a striking blood-red evening gown.
Below the image, a short caption mocked me.
“The queen is about to arrive at her castle.”
I stared at the screen, my stomach dropping into a cold, bottomless pit.
I tried to convince myself it was just a wrong number.
I couldn’t let a bizarre text ruin the most massive milestone of my husband’s life.
Tonight was the grand opening of Craig’s brand new corporate headquarters, a towering skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan.
It was supposed to be the ultimate proof that all our struggles in that cramped Brooklyn studio apartment had finally paid off.
I took a deep breath, deleted the message, and climbed into the back of my black town car.
The memory of those early days flashed behind my eyes as we drove through the city.
Craig used to pitch his business ideas at our tiny kitchen table, his eyes burning with a passion I deeply believed in.
When my father passed away, I inherited a staggering fortune.
I could have spent it entirely on myself.
Instead, I quietly liquidated minor family assets to fund Craig’s first startup.
I never told him exactly how many millions I was injecting into his company.
I wanted him to feel like the genius behind his meteoric rise.
Seeing him successful and happy was always enough for me.
I didn’t even want my name on any of the board documents.
I was content being the secret powerhouse behind the scenes.
The valet opened my door, and a blinding barrage of camera flashes hit my face.
I plastered on a polite smile, walking down the red carpet into the lavishly transformed lobby.
Massive glittering crystal chandeliers illuminated a sea of black tuxedos and muted dresses.
A live string quartet played softly over the chatter of tech moguls and politicians.
Several investors greeted me warmly.
“Congratulations, Mrs.
Stanton.”
“Thank you so much,” I replied, forcing my smile to widen.
But as I moved through the crowd, a bizarre tension gnawed at the edges of the room.
The employees from Craig’s company greeted me respectfully, but their eyes constantly darted away.
Their smiles were tight and completely insincere.
It felt like everyone was in on a vicious joke that I hadn’t heard yet.
I scanned the opulent hall, finally spotting Craig standing in the center.
He looked incredibly confident in the midnight blue suit I had laid out for him that morning.
The platinum Rolex I bought him for today sparkled on his wrist.
I started to walk toward him, but he was entirely engrossed in a conversation with a specific group of people.
Right in the center of that group stood a woman commanding everyone’s attention.
She wore a bright, blood-red evening gown.
My breath hitched in my throat.
It was the exact same woman from the photo.
Her name was Heather.
I watched her reach out and intimately adjust Craig’s silk tie.
She leaned in, whispering directly into his ear.
Craig flashed her a deeply affectionate smile, the exact kind he usually reserved only for me.
My legs turned to jelly.
The champagne flute in my hand began to shake violently.
Then my eyes locked onto the vintage diamond necklace resting against her collarbone.
It was my late mother’s heirloom necklace.
It was my most prized possession, the one I kept locked inside our heavy steel safe at home.
In that split second, the classical music faded into a dull, echoing white noise.
Every awkward look and tight smile suddenly made perfect, terrifying sense.
I stared at my husband, standing intimately with a mistress wearing my dead mother’s diamonds.
The MC stepped up to the main stage, his booming voice cutting through my catastrophic pain.
“And now, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the visionary behind this magnificent building, the CEO and founder, Mr.
Craig Stanton!”
Thunderous applause erupted as Craig strode confidently to the podium.
He waved to the crowd, looking like the king of New York.
“Good evening, everyone,” Craig began, his voice resonating through the state-of-the-art sound system.
He shared stories of his early brutal struggles and his relentless faith.
I stood near a massive marble pillar, desperately waiting to hear my name.
He thanked his first angel investor, a man I had secretly convinced to take the meeting.
He thanked his executive team, the architects, and the Wall Street banks.
He thanked everyone except me.
My smile slowly dissolved into a mask of pure humiliation.
He took a dramatic pause, scanning the sea of faces until his eyes locked onto Heather in the front row.
“Out of all the brilliant people who helped me build this, there is one person whose role simply cannot be replaced,” Craig said, his voice dropping to a softer register.
My heart hammered frantically against my ribs.
I braced myself, hoping against hope that he meant me.
“Someone who stepped into my life when I was on the verge of giving up and gave me the strength to keep fighting.”
He smiled widely, raising his hand and pointing straight at the woman in red.
For that reason, I want to invite that incredibly special person up here to the stage.
