My Ruthless CEO Boss Made My Life Miserable — Until He Discovered My Secret Identity

Part 2

“Are you hurt?”

Tyler’s voice lacked its usual sharp, commanding edge.

I shook my head slowly, rubbing the tender skin on my forearm where Craig had grabbed me.

Tyler turned his attention back to the veterinarian, his dark eyes narrowing into a lethal glare.

“If you ever approach her again, I will ensure you lose everything,” he stated, his tone freezing the air around us.

Craig stumbled backward, his face pale, before scurrying away into the shadows without uttering a single word.

Tyler gestured toward the open door of his idling town car.

“Get in.”

I hesitated for a fraction of a second before sliding onto the smooth leather seat.

He climbed in beside me, instructing his driver to take us directly to my apartment building.

The silence inside the spacious cabin was thick and heavy, punctuated only by the hum of the engine.

“Thank you,” I finally murmured, staring out the tinted window at the passing city lights.

Tyler kept his gaze fixed straight ahead, his posture rigid.

“I protect my employees, Miss Fisher.”

His answer was strictly formal, but the tense lines around his mouth seemed to relax slightly.

He dropped me off at my building and waited until I was safely inside the brightly lit lobby before the car pulled away.

I collapsed onto my sofa and instantly texted Orion about the entire bizarre encounter.

“My tyrant boss actually saved me from a horrible blind date tonight,” I wrote, my fingers flying across the screen.

Orion replied a minute later, his message carrying a surprisingly calm tone.

“Maybe he is not as much of a monster as you thought.”

I stared at the glowing screen, an odd fluttering sensation settling in my chest at his response.

The next week at work, the atmosphere shifted drastically.

Tyler stopped throwing my designs back in my face and actually started offering constructive feedback.

I stayed late on a Wednesday to finish finalizing the presentation files for our biggest client.

I clicked the save icon, only to watch a massive error message flash across the monitor.

Brenda had logged into the shared server and systematically deleted the entire project folder.

I buried my face in my hands, hot tears pricking the corners of my eyes as hours of work vanished.

Heavy footsteps approached my cubicle, stopping just behind my chair.

Tyler stared at the blank monitor over my shoulder, his jaw tight.

He immediately picked up his phone and summoned Brian, his assistant.

“Pull the security footage from the server room, right now,” Tyler ordered, his voice echoing in the empty office.

He fired Brenda the very next morning, tossing her termination papers onto her desk in front of the entire department.

I walked into his office later that afternoon to drop off the newly recovered files.

Before I could turn around to leave, his mother, Heather, barged through the heavy oak doors.

She pointed a manicured finger at me, her face flushed with pure indignation.

“You are wasting your time with this ordinary girl when you should be meeting the CEO’s daughter I arranged for you!”

Tyler stood up slowly from his massive mahogany desk.

He walked around the heavy furniture and stopped right beside me.

He pulled me close, his thumb brushing my knuckles as he stared down his mother, and I had to wonder—why was he suddenly pretending that I was the center of his universe?
