The Emotional Shift and the End of Intimacy

My wife said she was no longer interested in intimacy, but months later wanted kids. When I served her divorce papers she begged me to stay.

Hello, Reddit Eyes Plus here. You know I never thought I’d be the guy standing here telling this story, but here we are.

So let me set the scene. I’ve been married to this woman, let’s call her Lisa, for about 6 years.

We had what I thought was a solid relationship. The kind where you can laugh at the dumbest things and sit in comfortable silence without it feeling awkward.

Or at least that’s what I thought. But about a year ago something shifted.

It started small like these things always do. She started pulling away not physically at first but emotionally.

Conversations felt hollow. You know that feeling when someone’s just there but not really present? That was Lisa.

I’d ask how her day was and she’d respond with one-word answers. She was staring at her phone like it held the secrets of the universe.

Then one night she drops the bomb. She says she’s no longer interested in intimacy, just like that, no buildup, no warning.

I remember laughing awkwardly thinking it was a joke, but nope, dead serious. She said she felt disconnected and needed space.

I tried to dig deeper, tried to understand, but all I got was a wall of vagueness. So I gave her space.

I figured maybe it’s stress; work’s been rough for her after all. But weeks turned into months and nothing changed.

No hugs, no kisses, no connection. I was starting to feel like a roommate who happened to pay half the bills.
