No One Could Handle The Billionaire’s Twin Daughters—Until A Single Dad Janitor Did The Impossible

The Unlikely Connection

The penthouse stretched out like a museum, pristine and utterly devoid of warmth. Marcus worked through the dining room and the study. Then he heard a crash. A shattering sound was followed by the patter of small feet.

He found them in the playroom. One twin stood frozen over a crystal vase. Water pooled across the floor. The girl stared at Marcus with emptiness. Her sister sat in the corner, trying to disappear.

“That looks like it made a big mess,” Marcus said quietly.

The girl said nothing.

“When my son was your age, he knocked over a whole bookshelf. It took us three hours to clean up.”

Something flickered in the girl’s expression. Marcus retrieved a mop and began cleaning without urgency. The girl who had broken the vase slowly picked up one of the wet flowers. Her sister rose and joined her.

“What happened here?” Victoria asked, appearing in the doorway.

“Small accident ma’am, all cleaned up now,” Marcus replied.

“Who are you?” Victoria asked.

“Marcus Webb ma’am. Night maintenance.”

Victoria noticed the girls actually looked at him. After they went to bed, she made a proposal.

“I want you to be available during the day to help with the girls. Not as a nanny, just present.”

“I can’t quit my night job ma’am. I need the benefits for my son.”

“I’ll match your current salary and extend benefits to cover both positions.”

Marcus agreed to a trial period. For days, he simply worked around them. Victoria watched with the intensity of a scientist.

“You’re not doing anything,” she said with frustration.

“I’m fixing your cabinet,” he said mildly.

“I think these girls don’t need another adult trying to fix them. They need someone who will just be there.”

The breakthrough came during the second week. Rose approached Marcus, holding a picture she had drawn. It showed a figure with a mop standing next to two girls.

“Is that me?” he asked.

She nodded. A ghost of a smile crossed her face. Marcus simply taped the drawing to the refrigerator.
