Poor Girl Returns a Lost Wallet — Not Knowing It Belonged to a Millionaire

Returning the Lost Belonging

At the cafe she asked her coworker, “Do you know where Hayes Holdings is?”

The girl laughed, “You mean the Hayes Holdings? The big glass tower downtown? Emily, what would you want there?”

Emily smiled faintly, “Just returning something”. After her shift, she took the old city bus across town.

The building was enormous, shiny, towering, and intimidating. Security guards stood by the entrance dressed sharply, scanning everyone who walked in.

Emily hesitated. Her reflection in the glass doors made her heart sink; she looked out of place.

But she gathered her courage, clutched the wallet tight, and approached the guard. “Excuse me sir I found this wallet at the bus stop it belongs to Mr Alexander Hayes”.

The guard frowned, suspicious at first. “You found it?” “Yes sir I just want to return it”.

He called someone inside. Minutes later a woman in a black suit appeared, Ms. Bennett the assistant.

“You found Mr Hayes’s wallet?” she asked surprised. Emily nodded and handed it over.

“Please make sure he gets it back safely”. Miss Bennett looked at her curiously, “Would you like to wait? He might want to thank you personally”.

Emily shook her head quickly, “No, no need, I really need to catch my bus”. “Just tell him someone wanted him to have it back”.

Before the assistant could respond, Emily turned and left, her shoes squeaking softly against the marble floor.

When Alexander Hayes received the wallet later that evening, he was silent for a long time. He had lost it earlier that morning during his rush to a meeting.

He hadn’t even noticed until hours later. For a man who owned everything, losing something felt like a minor inconvenience.

But when he opened it and saw the note Miss Bennett had attached, something inside him stirred. Found by a girl named Emily Carter; she refused any reward.

“Refused a reward? No one did that anymore”. He couldn’t stop thinking about it.

That night he replayed the situation again and again. Who returns a wallet full of cash in a city where everyone struggles?

Who walks away without even leaving a phone number? By morning he had made up his mind.

He asked his assistant to find her. Emily was startled when two men in suits walked into the cafe the next day.

“Are you Emily Carter?” one of them asked. She hesitated, “Yes, why?”
