Poor Girl with Her Baby Buys Diapers with Her Last Coins, The CEO Behind Her Does Something Shocking

Sabotage, Success, and a New Beginning

Three months later, Emma’s life had transformed beyond recognition. Her new salary allowed her to move into a safe, clean apartment.

Lily attended the company’s on-site daycare while Emma worked upstairs. Professionally, Emma had thrown herself into learning everything about her role.

Her organizational skills and attention to detail made her a natural. However, the transition hadn’t been without challenges.

As predicted, whispers followed her. Victoria Harrington, James’ ex-wife on the board, made her disapproval painfully obvious.

“James has always had a weakness for charity cases,” Victoria remarked loudly at a company function. James defended Emma publicly, but the whispers persisted.

Then came the Richardson contract, a potential deal worth millions. Emma had been working late when she noticed a discrepancy in the numbers.

“This doesn’t add up,” she murmured. The projected profits seemed inflated, and the market penetration estimates were unrealistic.

She called James immediately despite the late hour. “The Richardson numbers are wrong. Someone has manipulated the projections.”

“How certain are you?” James finally asked. “100%,” Emma replied firmly. “I’ve triple checked everything.”

“Come to my house,” James instructed. “Bring all the documentation.” An hour later, they sat at his dining table.

James’ expression grew increasingly grim. “This had to be deliberate. These aren’t mistakes; they’re calculated manipulations.”

“Who prepared these reports?” Emma asked. “Victoria oversaw the financial projections,” James replied, his voice tight.

He explained she had insisted on handling this personally. “You’ve just prevented a disaster,” James said, rubbing his temples.

If he had presented those numbers, the company could have faced lawsuits or even bankruptcy. Emma felt a chill.

James’ phone buzzed with a text from Victoria. “She wants to meet before the presentation tomorrow. She has concerns about your involvement.”

“I think we’ve just discovered why Victoria was so opposed to your hiring,” James said. “And I fear this is only the beginning.”

The next morning, Emma arrived early, her stomach knotted with anxiety. James had called an emergency meeting with the executive team.

She checked on Lily at the daycare first, drawing strength from her daughter’s smile. This was why she fought so hard.

At 8:00 a.m., Emma entered the conference room. Five executive team members were already seated, including Victoria Harrington.

“I’ve discovered serious inconsistencies in the Richardson proposal,” James began. Victoria’s perfectly sculpted eyebrow arched.

“Inconsistencies? I reviewed those numbers personally.” James nodded at Emma to distribute the folders she had prepared.

“Emma discovered the discrepancies last night. The projections have been deliberately inflated, creating unrealistic expectations.”

Victoria’s face remained impassive as executives reviewed the documents. “These are serious allegations,” Victoria said smoothly.

She noted the analysis came from an assistant with no financial background. “The numbers speak for themselves,” Emma replied calmly.

Emma pointed to specific sections where penetration estimates doubled the industry standard. Thomas Reed, the CFO, looked up with a frown.

“She’s right. These projections are impossible. Who prepared these?” All eyes turned to Victoria, whose composed expression finally cracked.

“I had Marcus Henderson from analysis prepare them based on my guidance,” she admitted. James noted this bordered on fraudulent misrepresentation.

Victoria’s mask slipped entirely. She confessed she pushed the numbers to ensure the deal would go through.

“That’s not how we do business,” James said. Victoria stood abruptly, threatening to tell the board about the “former waitress.”

“That’s enough,” James said. “Victoria, you’re suspended pending a full investigation. Please leave your company devices and exit the building.”

“You’ll regret this,” she said coldly, her gaze shifting between James and Emma. “Both of you.”

After Victoria stormed out, the room fell silent. “The Richardson presentation is in less than 2 hours,” James said.

He instructed Thomas to work with Emma on revised projections. As others filed out, James asked if Emma was all right.

The next 3 weeks passed in a blur of legal meetings. Victoria launched a campaign to discredit them, but Emma maintained her professionalism.

Then came the day of the rescheduled presentation. Emma’s phone rang; it was the daycare saying Lily had a high fever.

“James, I’m sorry, but Lily’s sick,” Emma said. Without hesitation, James nodded. “Go. Family comes first, always.”

At the hospital, Emma received a text from James: “Richardson signed. Full terms, honest numbers. How’s Lily?”

Emma smiled through her exhaustion. Later, a soft knock at the hospital room door interrupted her thoughts.

James stood there holding a teddy bear and a coffee. “Thought you might need this,” he said.

“You didn’t have to come,” Emma said. “I wanted to,” James replied. “You and Lily, you’ve become important to me.”

Emma realized something had shifted. What began as charity had evolved into respect, friendship, and perhaps something more.

“Victoria resigned from the board,” James said softly. “The other members unanimously supported you.”

“Is it really over?” Emma asked. James nodded. “One chapter ends, another begins.”

Emma reached over and took his hand. “Thank you for changing our lives.” “You have it backward,” James replied.

“You changed mine. You reminded me what really matters.” “What happens now?” Emma asked softly.

James smiled, his eyes warm with possibility.
