Poor Single Dad Missed Interview to Help a Woman — She Turned Out to Be the CEO Who Changed His Life
The Sacrifice and the Consequence
The bus ride downtown was slow, stuck in early morning traffic. David tapped his foot nervously, rehearsing answers in his head.
But just three blocks from the firm’s gleaming glass tower, life decided to test him. On the sidewalk, an elderly woman was struggling to carry a heavy grocery bag.
At first, he thought about just passing by. After all, he was already cutting it close.
But then the bag tore open. Apples rolled into the street, and oranges bounced onto the curb.
The woman stumbled, clutching her chest, her breathing ragged. Without thinking, David rushed over.
“Ma’am are you okay?” he asked, dropping to his knees to help her. She looked pale and unsteady.
“i I think I just need to sit,” she murmured. He helped her to a bench and gathered the scattered groceries.
He fetched her a bottle of water from the nearest store. Minutes turned into nearly half an hour as he insisted on waiting until she was fully steady and called a taxi to take her home.
By the time he sprinted to the office building, sweating and out of breath, the receptionist gave him a polite but firm smile.
“i’m sorry Mr miller the interview panel had a tight schedule you missed your slot,” she said. It was like the air left his lungs.
He tried to explain but rules were rules. Defeated, he walked back to the bus stop, wondering how he’d explain to Lily that their dream had slipped away.
