“Pretend You Love Me for Ten Minutes,” Said the CEO – What the Single Dad Janitor Did Stunned All

A Shared Connection

For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Isabella’s eyes flickered toward the elevator again, this time with something almost like curiosity.

“You’re a single dad, right?” she asked. Daniel was caught off guard.

“You have broken bar.” “Yeah.” “How’d you know?”

“I saw you last month,” she said. “You had your little girl with you after hours. She was coloring in the break room while you finished mopping.”

Daniel felt his cheeks warm. “Couldn’t find a sitter that night.”

Isabella smiled faintly. “She was wearing a pink backpack and singing to herself. She seemed happy.”

The thought of Emma always softened Daniel’s face. “Yeah, she’s my whole world.”

Something in Isabella’s expression shifted like she was looking at him through a new lens. “Danielle broken bar, can I ask you for one more thing?”

He raised an eyebrow. “Depends what it is.”

“Come upstairs with me, just for a minute.” Daniel hesitated.

Janitors didn’t get invited to the 52nd floor; that was executive territory. But something in her voice made it hard to say no.

He followed her into the elevator. She pressed the button for the top floor, and as the doors closed, she leaned against the mirrored wall, exhaling slowly.

“Why me?” Daniel asked finally. “Out of everyone down very broken bar, why’d you pick me?”

She looked at him for a long moment before answering. “Because you don’t look at me like everyone else does.”

“They see a CEO. You see a broken bar of person. I needed that today.”

When the doors opened, Daniel stepped into a room bigger than his entire apartment. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city, and a massive desk sat in the center.

Isabella walked over, opened a drawer, and pulled out a small photo frame. It was a picture of her much younger, standing beside a man in a janitor’s uniform.

They were both laughing. “My dad,” she said softly.

“He worked in a building like this for 20 years. People never noticed him either, until the day he saved the company’s founder during a fire.”

“That’s how I got here. I guess I just a broken bar saw a little of him in you.”

Daniel didn’t know what to say. She set the frame down and picked up a sleek black business card from her desk.

“If you ever need anything, anything at all, call me.” She pressed it into his palm.

As Daniel stepped back into the elevator a few minutes later, the card felt heavier than it should have.

He didn’t know if he’d ever use it. But he knew this: for 10 minutes, he hadn’t just pretended to care about someone.

He actually had. And somehow, he had the feeling a broken bar she hand two.
