She Accidentally Books Same Vacation Cabin, Unaware the Millionaire Owner Will Soon Fall For Her

The Accidental Arrival

The shrill beep of Tessa Anderson’s phone alarm shattered her peaceful sleep, but it couldn’t dampen her excitement. Today was the day her long-awaited escape from reality was finally beginning.

After 6 months of non-stop deadlines at her architectural firm, she was desperate for solitude, inspiration, and the promise of quiet mountain air.

“Three weeks in paradise,” Tessa whispered.

As she stretched, blonde hair tumbled over her shoulders. At 32, she had never taken more than a week off work, but the burnout had become too real to ignore. This secluded cabin in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains was exactly what she needed.

It was a place to sketch, read, and rediscover her creative spark. 4 hours later, Tessa’s compact SUV wound through tree-lined roads, climbing steadily into the mountains.

The early October air was crisp, and the aspen trees created a golden canopy above her. The directions from the rental agency were simple enough, and as she turned onto the narrow dirt road, anticipation swelled in her chest.

The cabin appeared around the final bend: a stunning two-story structure of timber and stone that made her architect’s heart skip a beat. It was far more impressive than the online photos had suggested, with broad windows and a wraparound porch.

“This cannot be right,” she muttered.

Double-checking the address on her phone, the numbers matched the rustic wooden sign at the entrance: 1422 Pine Ridge Way. Tessa parked and stepped out, breathing in the scent of pine and mountain air.

She retrieved the lockbox code from her email, keyed it in, and smiled when the box clicked open, revealing a heavy brass key. The cabin’s interior was even more breathtaking: soaring ceilings with exposed beams and a stone fireplace that dominated one wall.

Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the mountain view like a living painting. Modern furnishings blended perfectly with rustic elements, creating a space both luxurious and inviting.

“This is a steal for $200 a night,” she whispered.

Running her fingertips along the smooth quartz countertop in the kitchen, Tessa had just finished bringing in her luggage when the sound of tires on gravel made her freeze. She wasn’t expecting company, and the rental listing had specifically advertised complete privacy.

Frowning, she moved to the window and watched as a sleek black Range Rover pulled up behind her car. A tall man emerged, his broad shoulders filling out a casual navy sweater. Even from a distance, she could tell he was handsome.

He had dark hair that caught the sunlight, a strong jawline, and a confident stride. He carried a leather weekend bag and what looked like a laptop case. When he lifted his gaze to the cabin, Tessa felt a jolt of something inexplicable pass through her.

Before she could process what was happening, the stranger was striding up the steps to the porch. His key, an identical brass key to hers, slipped into the lock just as she pulled open the door.

They stood face to face in stunned silence.

“Who are you?” they asked in perfect unison.

The man recovered first.

“I’m Jack Forester, the owner of this cabin.”

His deep voice held a note of confusion rather than anger.

“And you are?”

“Tessa Anderson. I rented this place for 3 weeks through Mountain Retreat Rentals.”

She held up her phone with the confirmation email displayed, starting today. Jack’s eyebrows drew together as he studied her, then glanced at the email.

“There must be some mistake. I never listed this property with any rental agency.”

“But I have the confirmation, the lockbox code…”

Tessa’s voice trailed off as worry crept in. Had she been scammed?

“May I?” Jack gestured to her phone.

She handed it over, watching as he scrolled through the details. His expression darkened.

“This is definitely my cabin, but I never authorized this. I’m going to make some calls.”

While Jack stepped onto the porch to make his calls, Tessa sank onto the plush sofa, mortification washing over her. What if she had to leave? Where would she go?

Her apartment was being repainted during her absence, and all the decent accommodations in the area had been booked months in advance for the fall color season.

10 minutes later, Jack returned, running a hand through his dark hair in frustration.

“Well, it appears someone at my property management company made a serious error. They listed this cabin without authorization while I was traveling internationally for the past month.”

“I’m so sorry,” Tessa said.

Already mentally calculating how quickly she could repack, she added, “I’ll find somewhere else.”

“That’s just it,” Jack said, his expression softening slightly.

“The rental agency confirmed you’re their only booking. They just listed it last week. They’re offering to find you alternative accommodations, but given the season, everything’s booked.”

Tessa finished with a sigh. Jack studied her for a moment, his blue eyes analytical yet not unkind.

“I originally came up here to work on some business proposals in peace. I was planning to stay for the full 3 weeks as well.”

Tessa nodded, already standing to gather her things when Jack surprised her.

“The cabin has four bedrooms. It’s meant to accommodate eight people comfortably.”

He gestured to the expansive space around them.

“Perhaps we could both stay. You take the east wing, I’ll take the west. The common areas are large enough that we wouldn’t be in each other’s way.”

Tessa blinked in surprise.

“You’d be comfortable with that? Sharing your home with a stranger?”

A slight smile curved his lips.

“The rental agency did run a background check on you, and you’re an architect from Denver with no criminal record. I think I’ll take my chances.”

“How did you know I’m an architect?”

“It was in the rental application details they sent over.”

Jack shrugged.

“Besides, I’d feel terrible sending you away when this mistake wasn’t your fault. And to be completely honest, I could use the rental income. Some of my business ventures have taken unexpected turns recently.”

Tessa couldn’t help but laugh at that. The cabin had to be worth several million dollars with its prime location and high-end finishes.

“Somehow I think you’ll manage.”

Something flashed in Jack’s eyes—surprise, perhaps, at her candor.

“So do we have an arrangement, Miss Anderson?”

“Tessa, please.”

She considered the offer. It wasn’t ideal, but the alternative was worse.

“As long as we establish some ground rules.”

“Of course.”

Jack extended his hand, and when Tessa took it, she couldn’t help noticing how warm and strong it felt.

“Welcome to Pine Ridge Cabin, roommate.”
