She Started Tutoring a Child to Earn Extra. Had No Idea the Father Was a Millionaire Falling for Her

A New Beginning at the Jensen Estate

Penelope Hart gripped the worn-out strap of her purse as she climbed the marble steps of the grand estate. She had expected the house to be nice. She had answered a tutoring ad for a wealthy family, after all.

But this was beyond anything she had imagined. Towering columns framed the front entrance. The kind of luxury cars she had only ever seen in movies were parked in the circular driveway.

She swallowed hard. She desperately needed the money, but now she wasn’t sure if she was walking into a job or some kind of dream. The heavy wooden door swung open before she could knock.

A small, dark-haired boy peered up at her.

“Are you my new tutor?”

His voice was hesitant, his big brown eyes filled with curiosity. Penelope smiled warmly.

“I am. You must be Theo.”

The boy nodded solemnly and stepped aside, letting her into a foyer bigger than her entire apartment. She tried not to gape at the high ceilings, the crystal chandelier, or the gleaming floors. They looked like they had never been touched by dirt before.

A deep voice rang out from the top of the grand staircase before she could say another word.

“Theo, you’re supposed to wait for me before letting guests in.”

Penelope turned toward the voice and her breath caught in her throat. A tall, broad-shouldered man descended the stairs with effortless grace. His sharp blue eyes locked onto her.

His dark hair was neatly styled, and his jawline was strong and defined. He didn’t just look wealthy; he looked powerful.

“I assume you’re Miss Hart,” he said smoothly, reaching the bottom step and extending a hand.

“Yes,” she managed, shaking his hand.

His grip was firm, warm, and slightly lingering.

“Caelas Jensen,” he introduced himself.

Jensen. The name rang a bell, but she couldn’t place it. She was still too caught up in how ridiculously attractive he was and how his presence filled the entire room.

“Thank you for coming.”

His tone was polite, but there was something else in his gaze—something that made her pulse quicken. She cleared her throat, forcing herself to focus.

“It’s my pleasure. I’m excited to work with Theo.”

At that, Theo beamed up at her.

“I don’t like math,” he admitted.

Caelas sighed, rubbing his temple.

“That makes two of us.”

Penelope laughed before she could stop herself. To her surprise, Caelas’s lips twitched, almost like he was fighting a smile.

“Let’s see if we can change that,” she said, kneeling beside Theo and pulling out her notebook. “I have a few tricks up my sleeve.”

Caelas watched her for a moment before nodding.

“I’ll leave you to it then.”

As he walked away, Penelope exhaled, trying to steady her nerves. This was just a tutoring job, nothing more.

But as Theo chattered excitedly about his favorite superheroes, she couldn’t shake the feeling that working for Caelas Jensen was going to change her life in ways she never expected.

Penelope settled into her routine at the Jensen estate faster than she expected. Each afternoon she arrived punctually, greeted by Theo’s eager face as he dragged her toward the study for their session.

The boy was sharp, despite his insistence that math was his mortal enemy. With patience and a few creative games, she managed to make numbers seem less terrifying. Within days, he was solving problems with newfound confidence.

But it wasn’t just Theo who occupied her thoughts. Caelas Jensen was a presence that was impossible to ignore. Though he was often busy with work, his phone glued to his ear, he always made an appearance before their sessions ended.

At first, his presence felt intimidating, his piercing gaze assessing her with quiet intensity. But as the days passed, she realized he was watching not just her, but Theo.

He saw the way his son lit up around her and how he engaged more than he ever had before. One evening, as she gathered her things, Caelas leaned against the doorway of his home office, arms crossed.

“You’re doing something right,” he observed.

Penelope paused, gripping the strap of her bag.

“Theo’s doing the real work. He just needed someone to show him he could.”

A flicker of something passed through Caelas’s expression—something unreadable.

“He’s never taken to a tutor before. Not like this.”

She hesitated.

“Maybe he just needed someone who listens.”

His jaw tightened slightly, but before she could decipher the reaction, he straightened, nodding toward the door.

“Let me walk you out.”

She didn’t protest as they stepped outside, the cool evening air brushing against her skin. She felt the weight of his presence beside her.

“How long have you been teaching?” he asked as they neared her car.

“I’m still finishing my degree,” she admitted. “Tutoring helps me pay for school.”

His gaze sharpened.

“And after that?”

She exhaled, leaning against her car.

“I want to teach full-time. Maybe even work with kids who struggle in traditional classrooms.”

Caelas studied her for a moment, as if weighing her words.

“You’re good at what you do.”

The compliment caught her off guard.

“Thank you.”

For a moment, silence stretched between them, charged with something unspoken. Then he stepped back, nodding once.

“See you tomorrow, Miss Hart.”

She slid into her car, gripping the wheel as she watched him retreat into his world of wealth and power. What was she doing? She was here to teach Theo. That was all.

So why did her heart race every time Caelas Jensen looked at her like that?
