She Took Her Son to a Job Interview… Then Froze When She Saw Who the Boss Was | TRUE Story
The Face of a Forgotten Past
A few minutes later, she heard a familiar voice: “Emily Carter”. She looked up.
The man standing before her wore a tailored navy suit, a silver watch peeking from beneath his sleeve. His presence was confident and sharp.
But it wasn’t his suit or his posture that made Emily’s breath hitch; it was his face. It was the same strong jawline and the same green eyes, a little older but unmistakable.
Daniel Whitmore was the man she hadn’t seen in nearly 6 years. He was the man who didn’t know he had a son.
He blinked, clearly stunned, and his hand slowly dropped back to his side. “Emily,” he said again, more softly.
“Yes,” she managed, her voice trembling. He sat down slowly, looking from her to Jacob and back.
“Wow, it’s been a long time”. Jacob smiled and held up his toy truck: “Hi, I’m Jacob. I’m five”.
Daniel froze. Emily’s heart pounded as she could see the wheels turning in his mind.
Those eyes, that dimpled smile, and the same messy curls were unmistakable. He didn’t need to ask, but he did anyway: “Is he?”
Emily nodded, her voice barely audible. “Yes”.
Silence followed as Daniel sat back in his chair, the weight of the moment sinking in. Then, almost instinctively, he leaned forward.
“I had no idea, Emily”. “I know,” she whispered.
“You were gone before I found out, and I didn’t have a way to reach you”. They sat in silence for a long moment as Jacob hummed and drove his truck across the table’s edge.
