Single Dad Fixed Female CEO’s Computer And Accidentally Saw Her Photo. She Asked Am I Pretty? Part 2

Building a New Life Together

The next morning, James woke to a text from Olivia. “Thank you for coming. Your daughter is wonderful.”

“I have two tickets to the science museum exhibit on space exploration this weekend.” “Would she be interested? You’re invited too, of course.”

He stared at the message, feeling both warmth and apprehension. This was moving quickly, and he wasn’t sure if he was ready.

But when he mentioned the invitation to Lily over breakfast, her enthusiasm was impossible to resist. “The space exhibit, Dad!”

“They have a piece of the actual moon there!” “And a simulator that shows what it’s like to be in zero gravity!”

“So that’s a yes?” he asked, smiling at her excitement. “Obviously! Tell her yes before she invites someone else.”

James texted back an acceptance. Thus began a pattern that would continue over the coming weeks.

Museum visits led to picnics in the park. These led to movie nights at James’ modest house.

Olivia seemed genuinely more comfortable there than in her luxurious penthouse. To his surprise, she fit into their lives with unexpected ease.

She helped Lily with a science project. She introduced them both to her favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurants.

She never complained when plans had to change because of Lily’s school activities. She understood the demands of single parenthood in a way others hadn’t.

But as they grew closer, complications arose. Olivia’s position meant occasional paparazzi attention.

One Sunday morning, James opened the local news site. He found a photo of the three of them at an outdoor concert.

The headline read: “Montgomery Enterprises CEO’s new family.” The article speculated about their relationship and Olivia’s maternal instincts.

James called Olivia immediately, concerned about how this might affect her professionally. To his surprise, she laughed.

“James, I’ve been in the business pages for years. This is actually refreshing.” “They’re talking about me as a person for once.”

“But your board… your shareholders…” “Are adults who understand I have a personal life,” she finished.

“Besides, dating a stable, responsible single father actually improves my image.” “The business press has called me cold and robotic for years.”

Her casual use of the word “dating” gave him pause. They hadn’t explicitly defined their relationship, though they’d been seeing each other for two months.

There had been hands brushing and lingering looks. There was a brief kiss good night on her balcony.

But James had been hesitant to push for more. Olivia seemed content to follow his lead.

“Is that what we’re doing?” he asked carefully. “Dating?”

A brief silence followed. “I thought so,” she finally said, her voice more vulnerable than ever.

“But if you’re not comfortable with that label…” “No, it’s not that,” he interrupted.

“I just haven’t done this in a long time.” “The last woman I dated became my wife.”

“And I’ve never done this,” Olivia admitted. “Not really. Not with someone who matters.”

The words hung between them, heavy with implication. “You matter to me too,” James said softly. “To us.”

“I’m coming to care for her very much,” Olivia said. “Which is terrifying because I have absolutely no experience with children.”

“I keep waiting to make some horrible mistake.” “Welcome to parenthood,” James said with a laugh.

“That feeling never goes away.” The conversation marked a turning point.

They began to speak more openly about their feelings and fears. Olivia confessed her workaholic tendencies.

James acknowledged his lingering guilt about moving on after Emma. He shared his worries about balancing fatherhood with his feelings for Olivia.

But just as their relationship deepened, a crisis arose. A major security breach at Montgomery Enterprises threatened everything.

Olivia was suddenly working eighteen-hour days managing the fallout. She was implementing new security protocols.

Their plans were cancelled. Calls went to voicemail, and texts received brief, apologetic responses.

After two weeks of this, Lily confronted her father at breakfast. “Is Olivia ghosting us?”

James sighed, setting down his coffee. “She’s not ghosting…”
