Struggling Dad Saw A Man Filming A Woman Without Consent, Not Knowing She Was A Millionaire In Love
The Encounter and the Offer
Carter Reigns didn’t mean to get involved; he never did. But when he saw the guy holding his phone low toward the woman in the sundress, his instincts snapped.
“Hey,” Carter called sharply, stepping forward. “What do you think you’re doing?”
The guy flinched then tried to play it off. “Just checking messages,” he said.
Carter narrowed his eyes. “Then maybe try aiming your phone at your own face instead of hers”.
The woman turned, confused at first. Then her face tensed as she caught on.
She backed away from the apples. She stared at the guy like she was deciding whether to slap him or scream.
Carter stepped between them without hesitation. “Get lost now,” he commanded.
The guy muttered something under his breath. He took off down the sidewalk.
The woman let out a shaky breath. She brushed her dark brown hair behind her ear.
“Thank you; that was weird,” she said. “No thanks needed,” Carter replied.
Carter glanced down at his son, Parker. The boy clutched a box of cereal tightly under his arm.
“You okay?” Carter asked. She nodded, “I think so”.
“He was filming, wasn’t he?” she asked. “Yeah, I’ve seen that creep around the neighborhood before,” Carter said.
“You want me to call someone? Security? Cops?” Carter asked.
“No, it’s fine; I can handle it,” she said quickly. Then she hesitated.
“Actually, thank you, really,” she continued. “That could have gone differently”.
Carter gave a small shrug. “I’ve got a kid; I can’t let things like that slide”.
Her eyes dropped to Parker. He offered her a shy wave.
“I’m Ara,” she said, smiling gently. “I’m Carter, and this is Parker”.
Parker beamed. “Hi, I’m five”.
Ara crouched a little to meet his eye level. “You’ve got the best protector around”.
“He’s the best dad ever,” Parker said proudly. Carter chuckled, but there was a tightness behind his smile.
The last few months had been brutal. Jobs were drying up, rent was overdue, and bills didn’t care he was trying his best.
They chatted for a few more seconds. Then Ara glanced at her phone and winced.
“I have to run, but seriously, thank you again.” “No problem,” Carter said.
Carter watched her walk off. Her sundress swayed before he turned to Parker.
“All right, little man,” Carter said. “Let’s get these groceries and head home”.
The next day, fate had other plans. Carter had just finished hauling a radiator out of an old Honda.
He wiped his hands on a rag and walked to the front. She was standing there in jeans and a white blouse.
Sunglasses were perched on her head. She looked completely out of place next to the grease-stained counter.
“You follow me here?” Carter asked, half joking. She smiled.
“Actually, I asked around,” she said. “I wanted to say thank you properly”.
“You already did,” Carter replied. He motioned to the chaos behind him.
“As you can see, I’m not exactly running an upscale operation.” “Perfect,” she said, stepping closer.
“Because I want to pay you back with a job.” He blinked, “A job?”.
“I need someone to help repair a few classic cars I’ve been collecting,” she explained.
“I’ve seen your work; Jordan showed me your file,” she added. “You’re good”.
Carter frowned. “You want to hire me out of the blue?”.
“You protected me,” she replied. “You didn’t know who I was and you didn’t expect anything; that’s rare”.
Carter crossed his arms. “Who are you?”.
She hesitated, then smiled. “I’m Ara Nalan; I run Nalin Investments”.
“My family owns a few properties around Manhattan,” she said. “And I’m a millionaire”.
Carter stared at her. She laughed softly at his face.
“Yeah, I get it,” she said. “But I wasn’t joking about the cars”.
“I bought a few old ones,” she continued. “I want someone who actually cares to restore them”.
“I don’t take charity,” Carter stated. “This isn’t charity; it’s a job,” she countered.
“It’s good money,” she said. “And you’d be doing something you’re actually passionate about, right?”.
Carter exhaled slowly. “Where?”.
“My home,” she answered. “I have a garage space out in the Hamptons”.
“You and Parker can come out on weekends,” she offered. “Or stay if that’s easier; I’ll cover everything”.
He stared at her again. “You’re serious?”.
“Completely,” she said, holding out her hand. “Say yes”.
He hesitated, then shook it. Her hand was soft, warm, and firm.
“Okay,” he said. “Yes”.
The next afternoon, they arrived at her estate. Parker’s eyes nearly popped out of his head.
They pulled through the gates and saw the mansion. It had tall glass windows and an ocean view.
The garage looked bigger than their entire apartment. “Is this a castle?” Parker asked.
Ara laughed. “Close”.
Inside the house was sleek and modern. It was filled with natural light.
There was a guest suite prepared for them. It included a stocked kitchen and a playroom.
It was too much; Carter felt out of place. But Parker immediately settled in.
He began playing with a toy truck Ara had left on the bed. The garage was even more impressive.
Three vintage cars sat in various states of disrepair. Carter immediately fell into a rhythm.
With tools in hand and grime under his nails, he felt like himself again.
