Struggling Single Dad Pulls Twin Girls from a Frozen Lake Days Later, 5 Luxury SUVs Bring a Miracle
The Burden of a Hero
With the last bit of strength he had Daniel dragged her to the surface, lifting her toward the waiting arms of another stranger before his own body gave out.
When they pulled him from the water he was unconscious, hypothermic, and barely breathing. Daniel woke up 3 days later in a hospital room.
Emma’s tear streaked face was the first thing he saw. The doctors told him it was a miracle he survived.
The town called him a hero but he didn’t feel like one. He’d just done what any parent would do, wouldn’t he?
He didn’t know the girl’s names and he hadn’t expected to see them again. Life had a cruel way of returning to normal.
His rent was still unpaid. The utility company still wanted their money.
The food in the fridge still ran out quicker than his paychecks could cover. Being a hero didn’t pay the bills.
But then something strange happened. On a snowy afternoon just 5 days after the rescue Daniel was fixing a flat tire on his aging pickup.
A procession of five gleaming black SUVs rolled slowly into the worn-down driveway of his small rental house. For a moment he thought they were lost.
He’d never seen cars that expensive on his street before. The doors opened and outstepped a man and woman, the girl’s parents.
Tears welled up in the woman’s eyes as she rushed toward Daniel. Without a word she wrapped him in an embrace so deep it thawed something inside him that the cold had long frozen.
