What did it take for you to finally realize you were being groomed?

Building the Case and Facing the Network

Daniel showed me how to use special software to find archived versions of websites. We sat in Joyce’s office with her laptop and started digging. The website Archie used had terrible security, which actually helped us.

Daniel found cached pages going back two years. The evidence was worse than I thought. Not just me, but at least 12 other girls.

Some I recognized from school. Others were probably from before I started dating Ryan. All the videos followed the same pattern.

Pool footage, changing room shots, weird angles from inside the house. One account made my stomach turn. A girl named Britney who looked maybe 14 in the videos.

The comments were disgusting. Daniel took screenshots of everything while I tried not to throw up. Joyce made notes about which videos might count as child exploitation.

That afternoon, I got a text from an unknown number. Just said, “Stop digging or you’ll regret it.” My hands shook as I showed Joyce.

She said it was probably Archie trying to scare me. We went to the police station to file a report about the threat. The officer who took my statement seemed bored at first.

Another teenage drama, he probably thought, but when I showed him the screenshots, his whole attitude changed. He called in a detective named Detective Mills, who specialized in cyber crimes.

Detective Mills took everything seriously, made copies of all our evidence, said they’d need warrants to search the house and computers, told me to stay away from the family and document any contact, gave me his direct number in case anything else happened.

I went home feeling slightly better. At least the police were involved now. But when I got to my apartment building, Ryan’s car was in the visitor spot.

He was leaning against it, scrolling through his phone like he owned the place. I tried to walk past, but he grabbed my arm. Not hard enough to hurt, but firm enough to stop me.

Said we needed to talk, that I was overreacting about the whole thing. That his dad made a mistake, but family handles family business privately. I pulled away and told him to leave.

He followed me to the door, saying I was being dramatic, that lots of girls would love the attention, that I should be flattered older men found me attractive. Each word made me angrier, but I kept walking.

My roommate, Amber, opened the door before I could get my keys out. She took one look at Ryan and stepped between us, told him he wasn’t welcome and she’d call campus security if he didn’t leave.

He stared at us for a long moment, then walked back to his car. That night, I couldn’t sleep, kept checking the locks and looking out the window. Amber stayed up with me, drinking tea and letting me vent.

She said Ryan had always given her bad vibes, but she didn’t want to interfere in my relationship. The next morning, I had three missed calls from Linda’s number. No voicemails, but the calls were all around 3:00 a.m.

I showed Detective Mills, and he said they’d look into it. Made me wonder if Linda was trying to warn me about something. At school, I tried to act normal, but it was impossible.

Ryan was everywhere I looked, sitting with his football buddies at lunch, walking past my locker between classes, always watching me with this smirk like he knew something I didn’t. Nicole found me crying in the bathroom after third period.

I hadn’t told her anything yet because I was scared she’d be next, but she could tell something was wrong. Said Ryan had been asking about me, wanting to know my schedule and who I was hanging out with.

I finally broke down and told her everything about the videos and the money and the website. Her face went white when I mentioned Archie promised to bring her to the pool. She said she’d noticed weird stuff, too, but thought she was imagining it.

We went to Joyce’s office together after school. Nicole wanted to help build the case. She remembered other girls who’d been to the house, made a list of names and approximate dates.

The list was longer than either of us expected. Daniel had made more progress with the technical stuff. Found backup servers Archie used.

IP addresses that traced back to his home and office. Payment records showing regular deposits to multiple bank accounts. The money trail was complex, but definitely illegal.

That evening, my mom called upset. Someone had sent her anonymous email with photos of me in a bikini. Not the explicit videos, but still creepy shots from the pool.

The email said I was selling myself online and she should control her daughter better. I had to tell my mom everything. She cried and blamed herself for not protecting me.

I explained it wasn’t her fault, that Archie was a predator who fooled everyone. She wanted to drive over there and confront him, but I convinced her to let the police handle it. The next day at school was worse.

Some of Ryan’s friends were whispering and laughing when I walked by. One made a gross comment about my swimming form that made it clear they’d seen something. I ran to the counselor’s office and called Detective Mills.

He said they were close to getting warrants, but needed more time. told me to stay strong and keep documenting everything. But it was hard when I felt like everyone was looking at me differently, like they all knew my secret.

Nicole started getting texts, too, threats to release photos if she didn’t stop helping me. She showed them to her parents, who immediately called lawyers. Her dad owned a tech company and wasn’t about to let some creep threaten his daughter.

We found out Linda had been admitted to the hospital. Official story was exhaustion, but a nurse mentioned to Nicole’s mom that it looked more like poisoning. Slow acting stuff that builds up over time made me remember what Linda said about being blackmailed.

Detective Mills arranged for me to call Linda’s hospital room. She answered on the third ring, sounding weak and scared. Said Archie had been drugging her tea every night, making her sleep through his computer time.

She’d found out about the videos months ago. She tried to leave, but he threatened to release photos of her from their honeymoon. Explicit stuff she didn’t even remember taking.

Said he’d destroy her reputation and make sure she never saw Ryan again. So, she stayed quiet and pretended everything was fine. But when she found out about me, she couldn’t take it anymore.

Started switching out her tea bags so she’d stay awake. That’s how she discovered the full extent of what he was doing. Not just selling videos, but meeting up with some subscribers, letting them into the house for private tours.

The call cut off suddenly when I tried calling back. A nurse said Linda wasn’t allowed phone calls, doctor’s orders apparently, but we both knew it was really Archie controlling everything from outside.

Detective Mills moved faster after that. Got emergency warrants for the house and Archie’s office. I wasn’t there for the raid, but Nicole’s dad had connections who told him what they found.

Dozens of hard drives, hidden cameras in every room, financial records showing hundreds of thousands in offshore accounts. Ryan got pulled out of football practice for questioning. I heard he tried to play dumb at first.

said he had no idea what his dad was doing, but they had evidence he’d helped install some cameras, text messages discussing which girls to invite over. The school buzzed with rumors. Some people said I was lying for attention.

Others claimed they’d always known something was off about that family. A few girls approached me privately, saying they’d had weird experiences at the house, too. Kai from my chemistry class showed me photos from a pool party last year.

In the background of one, you could see a tiny red light in what looked like a pool float. They’d never noticed before, but now it seemed obvious. Another hidden camera we hadn’t found.

The police wanted me to come in for more questions. Joyce came with me for support. They showed me evidence they’d found, including a spreadsheet where Archie tracked which girls were most profitable.

My name was highlighted in gold as a premium earner. Made me sick seeing how he’d reduced us to dollar signs, notes about our bodies and personalities, which angles worked best, which outfits got more views.

He’d studied us like we were products to sell. They also found chat logs between Archie and Ryan, planning which girls to target, discussing camera placements. Ryan suggesting his girlfriend would be perfect because she was trusting and naive.

That hurt more than anything else. Detective Mills said they had enough to arrest both of them. But Archie had disappeared.

His car was gone and he’d withdrawn a bunch of cash. They put out alerts, but he had a head start. Ryan was still around, but lawyered up immediately.

That night, someone broke into my car. Didn’t take anything, but left a note on the driver’s seat. Last warning, written in red ink.

I called the police, but there were no cameras in that part of the parking lot. Amber suggested I stay with her parents for a few days. They lived an hour away and had good security.

I packed a bag and left town feeling like a coward, but Joyce said my safety was most important. While I was gone, Nicole coordinated with other victims, created a private group chat where we could share information.

The number kept growing as more girls realized they’d been filmed. Some were from years ago when Ryan was still in middle school. One girl named Skyler sent screenshots of messages from Archie.

He’d contacted her through a fake social media profile, offered to pay her directly for modeling at his pool. She’d turned him down, but kept the messages, which now served as more evidence.
