Young Millionaire Needed a Housekeeper, He Never Expected to Fall for the Woman Who Saved His Home
The Ultimatum of the Empty Mansion
The phone slipped from Noah O’Connor’s hand, clattering against the marble floor of his empty mansion. His mother’s voice still echoed in his ear through the speaker.
“Your father never wanted you to inherit everything without learning responsibility first.”
Noah, 28 and worth more than most people would earn in several lifetimes, stared at the disaster surrounding him. This was three weeks after firing his entire household staff in what his best friend had called a tantrum of epic proportions.
His 12,000-square-foot Hampton’s estate looked like a war zone. Pizza boxes formed precarious towers. Clothes were strewn across furniture worth more than the average American’s annual salary.
Dust coated surfaces that hadn’t seen a cleaning cloth since the staff’s departure. The place that had once been featured in Architectural Digest now resembled a frat house after a particularly destructive weekend.
Noah’s mother had delivered her ultimatum clearly. Either he proved he could maintain his inheritance responsibly, starting with his home, or the board of O’Connor Enterprises would re-evaluate his position as CEO.
All this because he’d fired his staff after overhearing them gossiping about his latest failed relationship.
“Responsibility,”
Noah muttered, kicking an empty takeout container. He was responsible. He’d taken his father’s technology company and doubled its value in three years.
What did it matter if he couldn’t keep milk from spoiling in his refrigerator? He picked up his phone and dialed the exclusive staffing agency his family had used for generations.
“This is Noah O’Connor. I need a housekeeper today.”
“Mr. O’Connor,”
The woman on the other end sounded strained.
“I’m afraid after the incident with your previous staff, we’re unable to accommodate your request.”
Noah pinched the bridge of his nose.
“What if I double your standard rate?”
“It’s not about money, sir. Your reputation has preceded you.”
After five more agencies delivered the same message with varying degrees of politeness, Noah found himself staring at a listing on his phone for Olivia’s Cleaning Services.
The website was simple, almost quaint compared to the polished digital presence of the agencies he typically used. But the reviews were stellar, and most importantly, they had same-day availability. With a sigh, Noah pressed call.
Olivia Olsen gripped her steering wheel tightly as she navigated toward the address on her GPS. When the call had come in that morning, she’d nearly choked on her coffee.
The amount offered for a deep clean and organization of living space was more than she typically made in two weeks. She’d opened her modest cleaning service three years ago after being laid off from her corporate job.
It had started as a way to pay bills while she figured out her next move. But somewhere along the way, it had become her calling. There was something deeply satisfying about transforming chaos into order.
Still, she’d never serviced a home in this exclusive part of the Hamptons. As she approached the iron gates, Olivia’s stomach tightened. She pressed the intercom button and announced herself with as much professionalism as she could muster.
The gates swung open silently, revealing a winding driveway that led to what could only be described as a modern palace. Floor-to-ceiling windows reflected the morning sunlight, and manicured gardens stretched in every direction.
“Just a job,”
Olivia reminded herself, like any other. But when Noah O’Connor opened the massive front door looking like he’d stepped out of a magazine spread despite his rumpled t-shirt and jeans, Olivia knew this was anything but an ordinary job.
“You’re Olivia?”
He asked, eyebrows raised slightly. She straightened her shoulders.
“Yes, Olivia Olsen of Olivia’s Cleaning Services. You requested an emergency cleanup?”
Noah ran a hand through his tousled dark hair, looking both embarrassed and impatient.
“Yes. Follow me.”
When he pushed open the door to reveal the state of his home, Olivia couldn’t suppress her gasp. The contrast between the architectural perfection of the house and the utter disaster within was jarring.
