Billionaire Woman Thought She Was Infertile Until A Poor Dad Made Her Dream Of Family Again

A Home Built on Love

Two weeks later, Juliana returned to the center to check on her donation.

She told herself it was just good business practice. The flutter in her stomach told a different story.

“The princess returns,” Dom called out with a grin. “Should I summon the royal subject?”

Juliana laughed, feeling strangely at ease. “Is her highness in residence today?”

“After-school program,” Dom confirmed, stepping down from his ladder.

“She’ll be disappointed she missed your grand entrance. Those shoes alone would have sent her into a princess frenzy.”

Juliana glanced down at her Christian Louboutins. “These old things?”

Dom raised an eyebrow. “The red soles cost more than my monthly rent, I’d bet.”

She couldn’t deny it, so she changed the subject. “How has the donation been helping?”

“We’ve replaced the water heater, fixed the roof leak, and ordered new computers,” Dom said.

“The director’s been keeping detailed records if you want to see them.”

“I trust you,” Juliana found herself saying.

Dom looked surprised, then pleased. “That’s not something billionaires usually say to guys who fix their windows.”

“I’m not a usual billionaire,” she replied with a small smile.

“No,” he agreed, studying her. “I don’t think you are.”

A bell rang, and the hallway was filled with children. When Lily spotted Juliana, her entire face lit up.

“Princess Juliana!” she shouted, racing over and wrapping her arms around Juliana’s legs without hesitation.

Juliana froze, then gently patted the child’s back. Warmth spread through her chest.

“Hello, your highness. How was school today?”

Lily launched into an elaborate tale about frogs and playground politics. Juliana caught Dom watching them.

When Lily finally paused for breath, Dom made a suggestion. “Why don’t we show Juliana our special place?”

Lily gasped dramatically. “The roof garden!”

“Really, if Juliana has time,” Dom said.

She should have been back at the office hours ago. There were contracts to review, calls to make, and an empire to run.

But looking at Lily’s hopeful face, Juliana heard herself say, “I’d love to see it.”

The roof garden was a modest collection of potted plants. The view of the sunset over the city was genuinely beautiful.

Lily proudly showed off her tomato plants. Dom explained they started the garden to connect with nature.

“Mommy loved gardens,” Lily informed Juliana. “Daddy says she’s watching our plants grow from heaven.”

Dom’s expression softened. “That’s right, Lilipad.”

“It’s beautiful up here,” Juliana said quietly. “Peaceful.”

“It’s our escape,” Dom admitted. “When the apartment feels too small or the bills pile up too high.”

Juliana thought about her penthouse. No child had ever climbed on her furniture. No family had ever gathered there.

“I have a terrace bigger than this whole roof,” she said slowly. “But I never sit out there. It’s just there for show.”

Dom looked at her curiously. “The billionaire life not all it’s cracked up to be?”

“It has its perks,” she acknowledged. “But lately I’ve been wondering what it’s all for.”

“I built this company thinking success would feel like something more.”

“What would make it feel like more?” he asked, genuinely interested.

Juliana watched Lily, who was making up a song about her tomato plants.

“A legacy that matters. Someone to share it with. A family.” The last words slipped out before she could stop them.

Dom nodded slowly. “Family changes everything,” he agreed. “Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.”

Juliana helped Lily identify constellations. She was surprised at how much astronomy she remembered.

Dom brought out a thermos of hot chocolate. They shared it, passing a single mug between them.

Somehow, it tasted better than anything she’d had in years.

Lily surprised her with a fierce hug and a slightly crushed tomato. “It’s the very first one,” she explained. “For you.”

“Thank you, Lily. I’ll treasure it.”

As Dom walked her to her car, he said, “You’re welcome to come back. Anytime. Lily would love it.”

He hesitated, then added, “I would, too.”

Juliana felt something flutter in her chest. “I’d like that. Maybe this weekend.”

Dom’s smile was warm. “It’s a date.”

Only after she’d driven away did Juliana realize what she’d said. It was a date with a man so different from her usual world.

He had calloused hands, a gentle smile, and the most precious daughter. She couldn’t wait to see them both again.

Saturday arrived. Juliana dressed with unusual care, choosing jeans and a simple blouse.

She felt strangely vulnerable as she rang the doorbell of the modest apartment building.

Dom opened the door with flour on his cheek. “You made it,” he said, his smile warming his entire face.

“I did,” she replied. “I brought these for Lily.”

Lily came racing to the door. “Princess Juliana! Daddy said you were coming, but I didn’t believe him.”

“Cause princesses don’t visit normal houses.”

Juliana laughed, kneeling down. “Well, this princess was invited to lunch by a very special girl, so here I am.”

Dom ushered them inside. Juliana took in the small but immaculately clean apartment.

There were toys neatly stacked and bookshelves overflowing. Walls were covered with Lily’s artwork.

It felt like a home in a way her place never had.

“We’re making pizza,” Dom explained. “Lily’s in charge of toppings.”

“Only cheese on mine,” Lily announced. “Daddy likes yucky olives.”

“I’m an olive fan myself,” Juliana admitted.

“A woman of sophisticated taste,” he teased. “There might be hope for us yet, Lilipad.”

As they assembled their pizzas, Juliana found herself relaxing. Dom was easy to talk to.

He shared stories without any of the calculated networking of her social interactions.

When he mentioned his second job delivering packages, there was no shame in it.

He was just a father doing whatever it took to provide for his daughter.

After lunch, Lily opened her gifts. She demanded they use the telescope that very night.

“You’ll have to come back when it’s dark,” she informed Juliana. “You can’t see stars in the daytime.”

Dom shot Juliana an apologetic look. “You don’t have to.”

“I’d love to,” Juliana interrupted. “I don’t have any plans tonight.”

Dom’s expression softened. “Really? Most billionaires I know are booked solid with galas and yacht parties.”

“You know a lot of billionaires, do you?” she teased back.

“Just one,” he said quietly, his gaze holding hers. “And she’s nothing like I expected.”

That evening, the three of them climbed to the roof. He set up a small picnic blanket and lanterns.

The city stretched out before them. They took turns looking through the telescope.

When Lily finally dozed off, Dom lifted her. “I should get her to bed. Would you like to come down for a cup of coffee?”

“Coffee sounds perfect,” she said.

After tucking Lily in, Dom rejoined Juliana. He handed her a steaming mug.

“Thank you for today,” he said. “Lily had a blast.”

“So did I,” Juliana admitted. “More than I have in… I can’t remember how long.”

“Can I ask you something?” Dom said after a moment. “What did you mean about wanting a family?”

“You’re young, successful; surely you could have any guy you wanted.”

Juliana stared into her coffee, gathering her courage. She rarely discussed her personal life.

“I can’t have children,” she said finally, her voice a whisper.

“I’ve tried everything. The chances are virtually non-existent.”

Dom’s expression was compassionate. “I’m sorry, Juliana. That must be incredibly difficult.”

“I was too busy building Carson Industries,” she continued. “Then one day I realized I had no one to leave it to.”

Dom nodded slowly. “Life has a way of teaching us what’s important. Lily saved me in a way.”

Juliana felt tears threatening. “She’s lucky to have you.”

“We’re lucky to have each other,” he corrected gently. “Family doesn’t always look the way we expect, Juliana.”

Lily called from the hallway. “Daddy, is Princess Juliana still here?”

She climbed onto the couch between them. Juliana opened her arms and Lily crawled into her lap.

“I had a bad dream,” she explained. Juliana stroked the child’s hair as she recounted it.

Juliana caught Dom watching them with a tender expression.

When Lily fell back asleep, Dom carried her to bed. He returned to find Juliana gathering her purse.

“You’re amazing with her,” he said quietly.

“Just not meant to be, apparently,” Juliana smiled sadly.

Dom stepped closer. “Juliana, there are many ways to be a mother. Biology is just one of them.”

“Thank you for saying that.”

Dom hesitated then asked, “Would you like to do something again? Maybe just the two of us next time?”

Juliana’s heart raced. “I’d like that very much.”

“Good,” he said. “Because I’d really like to try with you.”

Impulsively, Juliana leaned forward and kissed his cheek. “I’d say you’re doing just fine so far.”
