I Supported My Broke Ex, Then Dated A Billionaire — Only To Learn The Same Painful Lesson Twice

Part 1

I worked double shifts just to keep a roof over my broke boyfriend’s head, only to find out he was secretly texting another woman.

But long before that devastating betrayal broke my heart, there was our deceptively charming beginning.

I was sitting in a quiet cafe one evening, desperately trying to finish my office reports.

My laptop froze again.

I rubbed my forehead, completely exhausted from carrying the weight of my own life.

Then a tall man stood beside my table holding two cups of coffee.

Dark hair, a gray hoodie slightly soaked from the rain, and eyes that looked strangely comforting.

“Do you mind if I sit here?” he asked.

“Every other table is taken.”

I slowly looked around the almost empty cafe and laughed softly.

“You’re a terrible liar.”

He grinned, admitting he just wanted an excuse to talk to me.

That tiny moment became the beginning of everything.

His name was Brian.

Brian had recently moved to the city hoping to build a better life for himself.

Our connection happened naturally after that night.

Coffee dates turned into late-night phone calls.

Before I realized it, he had quietly become the most important part of my life.

When he lost his apartment two months later, I offered him a place to stay.

At first, everything felt beautiful in the simplest way.

We laughed a lot, cooked cheap dinners together, and stayed awake talking about our dreams.

“One day, I’m going to make your life easier,” he would say.

I believed every single word.

At first, I loved taking care of him.

I worked longer hours, covered most of the bills, bought groceries, and handled the rent.

“We’re a team,” I told him.

When you genuinely love someone, supporting them does not feel like suffering at first.

It feels like building together.

But slowly, things started changing.

He became distant.

The random hugs stopped.

The late-night conversations disappeared completely.

Some nights, I would wake up beside him and notice him smiling down at his phone in the dark.

The moment he noticed I was awake, he would quickly lock the screen.

I kept convincing myself I was overthinking things.

I told myself he was just stressed.

But deep down, something no longer felt the same.

One Friday evening, I rushed home excited after getting paid.

I stopped at his favorite restaurant and bought dinner.

The moment I opened the apartment door, I froze.

He was already dressed to go out.

“Oh,” I said softly, trying to hide my disappointment.

“You’re going somewhere?”

He barely looked at me.

“Yeah, a friend invited me out.”

I forced a smile and lifted the bags.

“I bought dinner.”

He sighed quietly, like the conversation itself was exhausting him.

“You should have texted first.”

That hurt more than I expected.

I reached gently for his arm.

“Did I do something wrong?”

He pulled away carefully.

“Megan, not everything is a problem.”

I immediately went quiet.

Because no matter how stressed life became, I never understood how love could suddenly start feeling cold.

That night, I sat alone eating takeout from containers meant for two.

Around 1:17 a.m., he finally came home.

I pretended to be asleep, but the moment he entered the bedroom, I smelled unfamiliar perfume on his clothes.

My heart dropped instantly.

The next morning, I woke up with a heavy feeling in my chest.

He was already in the kitchen making coffee like nothing had happened.

“Brian, are you talking to someone else?”

I asked quietly.

He immediately looked annoyed instead of surprised.

“What kind of question is that?”

I told him I smelled perfume on him last night.

He scoffed softly and shook his head.

“You’re becoming paranoid.”

But even while saying it, I knew he was lying.

That evening after work, I sat alone in the apartment while he showered.

His phone buzzed on the couch beside me.

My hands shook as I picked up the phone.

One message sat brightly across the screen from an unknown number.

“I miss you already.”

Another message appeared seconds later.

“Did she suspect anything?”

The room suddenly felt smaller.

Slowly, I opened the messages.

Pictures, late-night conversations, promises.

This had not just started.

It had been happening for months.

The bathroom door opened.

He walked out drying his hair casually, then froze the moment he saw his phone in my hand.

Heavy silence filled the room.

I looked up at him with tears already falling down my face.

“How long, Brian?”

I whispered.

He exhaled slowly and looked away.

Guilty people look away when the truth finally catches them.

I stood up shakily.

“After everything I did for you?”

He rubbed his forehead in frustration.

“I’m tired, Megan.”

“No,” I said, my voice breaking.

“You’re just tired of me.”

In that moment, I realized I had been fighting for a relationship he emotionally left a long time ago.

The next morning, he quietly packed his clothes and left.

The moment the door closed behind him, I broke down completely.

For weeks, I moved through life like someone emotionally exhausted.

Then one evening, I stepped out of the elevator holding grocery bags and froze.

He stood outside my apartment door.

My heartbeat instantly became uneven.

“Hey,” he said quietly.

“What are you doing here?”

He asked if we could talk, and against my better judgment, I let him in.

He sat on the couch while I stayed standing.

“I don’t really have time for games tonight, Brian.”

He rubbed both hands together nervously.

“She found your birthday post…

The girl I’m with… she saw the birthday message you posted for me.”

I stared at him quietly.

“She thinks we’re still together.”

Slowly, I realized why he was really there.

He came because he needed something.

He looked up at me.

“She said the only way she’ll believe me is if you call her yourself.”

For a few seconds, I genuinely could not speak.

My heartbreak suddenly turned into humiliation.

“You destroyed me emotionally, and now you want my help fixing your new relationship?”
