My Bride Ran To Her Ex At Our Wedding — So I Canceled It And Left Her With The Bill
Part 2
The ex-boyfriend shifted his weight nervously by the sofa, looking entirely out of place.
His former fiancee stood firmly in the hallway, sporting a messy bun and a tear-stained face.
“We need to talk,” she demanded.
I dropped my keys heavily onto the entryway table.
“We have absolutely nothing left to talk about.”
Stepping to the side, I tried to bypass her to reach the bedroom.
She mirrored my movement, cutting off the path.
“You humiliated me by walking away at the altar.”
A dry laugh scraped the back of my throat.
“You literally sprinted toward another guy while wearing a bridal gown.”
Brenda marched forward, slamming her designer handbag onto the kitchen island.
“You thoroughly embarrassed our entire family today.”
“I think your daughter managed that all by herself,” I replied, grabbing a stack of moving boxes from the corner.
Heather stepped between us, wringing her hands nervously.
“She just panicked under the pressure, Brian.”
Clearing his throat, Tyler finally spoke up from the edge of the living room.
“Listen, I only showed up to find closure before the ceremony.”
My jaw clenched so hard my teeth ached.
“You received an embrace that canceled an entire marriage.”
Megan covered her face, her shoulders shaking with heavy, dramatic sobs.
Dropping to her knees, she promised to cut all contact and book an emergency couples therapy session.
Ignoring the display, I pushed past the group and started throwing my clothes into the cardboard boxes.
“I am just grabbing my electronics and removing my name from the rental agreement.”
Brenda’s voice pierced through the apartment, echoing sharply against the bare walls.
“You are going to make her homeless because she cannot afford this apartment.”
I zipped my duffel bag shut with a final, sharp yank.
“She is an adult who can find a roommate.”
The older woman pointed a shaking, perfectly manicured finger directly at my chest.
“We will sue you for your twenty thousand dollar share of the venue costs.”
Reaching into my back pocket, I pulled out my smartphone and opened my inbox.
My thumb scrolled rapidly until I found the original PDF from our wedding planner.
I shoved the glowing screen inches from Brenda’s face.
“Point out my signature on this primary document.”
She snatched the phone, her eyes scanning the digital text in stunned silence.
“Both of you signed as the exclusive financial guarantors.”
My dad had spent hours warning me never to sign the main liability forms.
His deep paranoia had ended up completely saving my financial future.
Brenda stumbled backward, dropping my phone onto the sofa as the reality of the massive debt hit her.
Scooping up my device, I loaded my final box into the trunk of my car.
Megan chased me outside, slamming her palms flat against the driver’s side window.
I rolled the glass down exactly two inches.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she gripped the edge of the door frame.
“Why won’t you even try to forgive me?”
“Because you showed me exactly where I stand,” I answered flatly.
Shifting the gear into drive, I pulled out of the apartment complex without looking back.
I had my freedom and my bank account completely intact, but as I watched her collapse onto the concrete in my rearview mirror, I wondered: how long would it take for the rest of her life to catch up to the choice she made that day?
