My Electrician Asked For A Gun — The Real Reason Kept Us Out Of Our House Forever

Part 2

The deafening crack of the sudden gunfire completely shattered the quiet safety of our suburban home.

I instinctively grabbed Megan by the waist, wrapping my arm around her tightly and pulling her aggressively away from the dark hallway.

We stumbled blindly toward the front door, slipping on the hardwood floor in our frantic rush to escape the violence above us.

I didn’t bother grabbing our heavy winter coats from the closet, and I completely ignored my wallet resting on the entryway table.

I just shoved the heavy front door open with my shoulder and practically dragged her out into the freezing, unforgiving snow.

We sprinted down the icy driveway, our bare feet burning against the frozen pavement, and crouched defensively behind my parked car.

My cold hands were shaking so violently from the adrenaline that I could barely manage to unlock my phone screen.

I dialed 911 with trembling, clumsy fingers and practically gasped out our street address to the calm emergency dispatcher on the line.

I couldn’t even begin to explain the terrifying chaos of what was actually happening inside our once-peaceful house.

I just frantically told the operator that a massive man had my gun and was shooting wildly into our attic ceiling.

Megan was hyperventilating beside me, her panicked breath forming rapid, frantic white clouds in the freezing December air.

I pulled her tightly against my chest, desperately trying to project a sense of strong, protective calm that I absolutely did not feel.

The wail of police sirens pierced the quiet neighborhood in the distance within two agonizingly long minutes.

Four heavily marked police cruisers swerved aggressively onto our quiet street, screeching to a chaotic halt directly on our snowy front lawn.

Armed officers poured out of the vehicles with their weapons drawn, shouting commands as they charged straight into our wide-open front door.

The wait on the freezing curb felt like an agonizing, endless eternity of pure, unadulterated psychological torture.

Every single passing second stretched my frayed nerves to their absolute breaking point as we waited for the gunfire to resume.

Finally, the heavy front door swung wide open again, revealing the bright tactical flashlights of the responding officers.

Two uniformed cops emerged first, struggling to carefully carry a bright orange medical stretcher down the icy front steps.

But the bleeding, moaning man tightly strapped to the rigid plastic board wasn’t Craig.

It was a filthy, emaciated stranger I had absolutely never seen before in my entire life.

The man looked like a feral, cornered wild animal that had just been dragged out of a dark, forgotten cave.

He was severely malnourished, completely covered head-to-toe in a thick, suffocating layer of gray grime and pink fiberglass insulation dust.

His wild, bloodshot eyes darted frantically around the illuminated street, silently begging for an escape route that didn’t exist.

A dark, rapidly expanding crimson stain was spreading violently across his lower thigh, soaking into his ragged, torn denim jeans.

That was exactly where Craig’s bullet had successfully stopped him from doing whatever he had planned to do in the dark.

Craig casually walked out the front door a moment later, looking completely unfazed by the terrifying violence that had just unfolded.

He calmly handed my now-empty black handgun over to a waiting deputy without a single word of explanation.

An older, weathered officer with a thick gray mustache walked slowly down the icy driveway toward where we crouched by the car.

He pulled a small, clear plastic evidence bag from the deep front pocket of his heavy winter uniform jacket.

He held it up to the harsh yellow glow of the streetlamp, his weathered expression looking incredibly grim and deadly serious.

The officer then asked a question that still completely haunts my wife to this very day.
