My wife divorced me, took everything I owned, and turned my kids against me. Then her affair partner

Forgiveness Without a Reunion

Left her broke, house foreclosed. She had to move back in with her parents.,

She cried on the phone telling me how she never appreciated what we had.

And how she missed our family. And then, get this: my kids called.

First time in over a year. “Hey Dad, Mom told us what happened. We didn’t know. We’re sorry.”

“We want to see you. Maybe we could all hang out sometime. Like old times.”

Now I’d like to tell you I cried tears of joy. That I welcomed them back with open arms.

And we all ran through a field into each other’s arms like a cheesy movie ending.

But I didn’t because that chapter, it’s closed.

I told Laura I forgave her. For me, not for her, because I needed to let go of the bitterness to move forward.

But that didn’t mean I was stepping back into the mess she made.

And as for the kids, I told them the truth.

That I loved them, that I never stopped, but relationships take work from both sides.

I told them I was open to building something new, but it wouldn’t be like it was before.

Too much damage had been done. It’s been 6 months since that call.,

We talk occasionally. They’re cautious, unsure; I get it.

Laura is still trying to play the redemption arc, but I’m not buying tickets to that show.

I’ve got peace now. A steady life, no drama.

Just me, Lucky, and the quiet comfort of knowing I survived the worst days of my life.

She wanted forgiveness. She got it.

She wanted a reunion. She didn’t.

Because the thing about burning bridges is sometimes there’s no rebuilding what you destroyed.
