“Please Don’t…, You’re the One I’ve Loved All Along” — Single Dad Whispers to CEO After Car Crash

The Collision of Past and Present

Asterisk the screeching of tires, the shattering of glass. Two lives were forever changed at that intersection.

But what no one knew was that these strangers had a past. That past would resurface in the most heartbreaking way.

The rain fell in sheets across the windshield as Marcus Bennett adjusted his rear view mirror. He caught a glimpse of his sleeping daughter in the back seat.

At 8 years old, Lily was the spitting image of her mother. She had the same chestnut hair and the same dimple when she smiled.

The thought brought a familiar ache to his chest. “Almost home sweetheart,” he whispered, though she couldn’t hear him.

The last 3 years as a single father had been the hardest of his life. After losing his wife to cancer, Marcus had thrown himself into being both mother and father to Lily.

He worked double shifts at the hospital as a nurse to provide for her. Tonight had been particularly grueling.,

It was a 12-hour shift followed by picking Lily up from her grandmother’s house across town. The intersection ahead turned green.

Marcus pressed gently on the gas, his eyelids heavy with exhaustion. He never saw the black SUV running the red light until it was too late.

Alexandra Winters was having the worst day of her professional life as CEO of Winters Pharmaceuticals. She had just left an emergency board meeting.

There, she had announced the failure of their groundbreaking cancer drug in the final phase of clinical trials. Five years of research and millions in investment were all gone.

Her phone buzzed incessantly as she drove through the storm. Investors and reporters were demanding statements.

Alexandra reached for it, taking her eyes off the road for just a second. That second changed everything.

She blew through the red light at full speed. Her SUV collided with a modest sedan crossing the intersection.

The impact was deafening. Metal crushed against metal as both vehicles spun across the wet pavement.,

When the world stopped spinning, Alexandra’s airbag had deployed, leaving her dazed but conscious. Through the cracked windshield, she could see the other car.

It was far more damaged than her luxury vehicle. Steam rose from its crumpled hood.

“Oh God,” she whispered, fumbling for her seat belt. “Please no!”

Marcus came to with the taste of blood in his mouth. Pain radiated from his chest and left leg, but his first thought was only of Lily.

“Lily,” he called out, twisting to look into the back seat. Relief flooded him when he saw her still secured in her booster seat.

She was eyes wide with fear but apparently unharmed. “Daddy what happened?” Her voice trembled.

“It’s okay baby, we had an accident but everything’s going to be fine.” He tried to move but gasped as pain shot through his leg.

He looked down and saw it was pinned beneath the crushed dashboard. Outside, he could hear sirens in the distance.

Someone was tapping on his window. It was a woman with blood streaming down her face from a cut on her forehead.

Her expensive suit was soaked from the rain. “I’m so sorry,” she was saying, her voice muffled through the glass.

“I’ve called an ambulance, they’re coming.” Marcus nodded, focusing on staying conscious for Lily’s sake.

The woman managed to wrench open his door. “I need to get my daughter out,” Marcus said through gritted teeth.

The woman nodded, moving to the back door. “I’ll help her, I’m so sorry, this is all my fault.”

As she opened the back door and began speaking softly to Lily, something about her voice triggered a memory. It stirred in Marcus’ pain-addled mind.

He turned his head, really looking at her for the first time. The world seemed to stop.

“Alex,” he whispered, disbelief coloring his voice. The woman froze, her eyes widening as she stared back at him.

“Marcus, oh my god, Marcus Bennett.” Fifteen years fell away in an instant.
