“Please Don’t…, You’re the One I’ve Loved All Along” — Single Dad Whispers to CEO After Car Crash

Healing and Heartfelt Confessions

Alexandra couldn’t believe what was happening. Of all the people in this city, she had crashed into Marcus Bennett.

He was the man she’d once planned to spend her life with. That was before ambition and opportunity had pulled them apart.,

“You know my daddy?” Lily asked, looking between them with confusion.

“Yes,” Alexandra said softly. “A long time ago.”

The wail of sirens grew louder. Alexandra helped Lily out of the car, holding the little girl close as emergency vehicles surrounded them.

Paramedics rushed to Marcus, who was clearly in worse shape than either of them. “Please take care of my daughter,” Marcus called out.

This was as they worked to free his trapped leg. “I’ve got her,” Alexandra promised, her heart breaking at the sight of him in pain.

“I won’t leave her side.” As the paramedics loaded Marcus onto a stretcher, he reached out and caught Alexandra’s wrist.

His eyes, those same kind eyes she’d fallen in love with in college, locked with hers. “Please don’t,” he whispered.

His voice faded as pain medication took effect. “You’re the one I’ve loved all along.”

Then his eyes closed. Alexandra was left standing in the rain, holding the hand of the daughter of the only man she’d ever truly loved.

He was the man whose heart she’d broken 15 years ago. This was when she’d chosen her career over their relationship.

The hospital waiting room was cold and sterile. Alexandra sat with Lily curled against her side.

Both of them were wrapped in blankets provided by the hospital staff. Alexandra had been treated for a minor concussion and the cut on her forehead.

She had refused to leave until she knew Marcus would be okay. “Is my daddy going to die?” Lily asked suddenly.

Her small voice broke the silence. Alexandra’s heart clenched.

“No sweetheart, the doctors are fixing his leg. He’s going to be just fine.”

“That’s what they said about mommy,” Lily whispered. “But she didn’t come home.”

Alexandra felt tears spring to her eyes. She pulled the little girl closer.

“I’m so sorry about your mom. But I promise you your dad is strong.”

“He’s the strongest person I’ve ever known.” A doctor approached them, still wearing surgical scrubs.

Alexandra stood, her heart pounding. “Family of Marcus Bennett?”

“Yes,” Alexandra said without hesitation. “How is he?”,

“He’s stable. The surgery to repair his leg went well, but he lost a lot of blood.”

“He’s going to need time to recover.” The doctor looked at Lily.

“Your dad’s asking for you, little one.” Lily jumped up, but then looked uncertainly at Alexandra.

“Will you come too?” Alexandra hesitated.

“I don’t know if your dad wants to see me.” “He said to bring both of you,” the doctor clarified with a small smile.

Marcus lay in the hospital bed, his leg elevated and heavily bandaged. The pain medication made everything seem slightly unreal.

But when Lily ran to his bedside, her realness anchored him. “Daddy,” she cried, carefully hugging him.

“Hey Princess,” he murmured, kissing the top of her head. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” M alex took care of me. Marcus looked up to see Alexandra hovering uncertainly in the doorway.

Even with a bandage on her forehead and her designer clothes rumpled, she was as beautiful as he remembered. Perhaps more so with the years adding character to her face.

“Come in,” he said softly. Alexandra approached the bed, her eyes filled with tears.,

“Marcus I’m so sorry. If I hadn’t been looking at my phone…”

“Shh,” he interrupted. “Accidents happen.”

“Not like this. Not between…” She trailed off, glancing at Lily.

Marcus understood. “Lily sweetheart, would you mind asking the nurse if we could get some juice?”

Once Lily had skipped out of the room, Marcus turned back to Alexandra. “I never thought I’d see you again.”

“I never thought I’d nearly kill you with my car,” she replied with a weak attempt at humor. “What did I say to you before I passed out?”

Marcus asked the question because the memory was hazy, clouded by pain and medication. Alexandra’s cheeks flushed.

“You said, ‘Please don’t, you’re the one I’ve loved all along.'” Marcus closed his eyes, embarrassment washing over him.

“I’m sorry. That was the pain medication talking.”

“Was it?” Alexandra asked quietly. Their eyes met, 15 years of unspoken words hanging between them.

“I saw your name in the papers,” Marcus finally said. “CEO of Winter’s Pharmaceuticals. You did it. Everything you wanted.”

“Not everything,” Alexandra whispered. She took a deep breath.
