What’s your “Oh I should not have done that” story?
Remission and Maldives
Through it all, other than the stress from the divorce, I was getting healthier. The new doctor that I got from Susan had taken me in. I saw a drastic improvement in my health and energy since starting treatment with her.
After about a year of treatment with the new doctor, I received the joyous news that I was in remission. My divorce was finalized, and my life was on the right track. Mark suggested that we celebrate something as big as being cancer-free.
I asked him how he wanted to celebrate, and he suggested a trip to my dream vacation. I have wanted to go on a vacation to the Maldives for as long as I could remember.
Whenever I would ask David if we could go, he would always say he didn’t have the time or that it was too expensive. But now I had plenty of money from the joint account that we had while we were married, and the money was sitting there begging to be spent.
I thought now would be a better time than ever to use it to celebrate my successful treatments and better health overall. We set up the nearest date and booked tickets for just the two of us, and I got my trip to the Maldives.
I called to tell my family the news, and we had a party where everyone dressed in pink. We drank pink lemonade, had a pink cake, the whole nine yards. When I broke the news to my support group, everyone seemed so happy for me and begged me to continue the meetings.
I agreed; that was my plan anyway because those women had become more than friends to me; they were my family. I’m writing this from the Maldives now, and as me and Mark sit on the beach watching the sunset, I realized how far we had come and how much we had healed.
